Abraham Jones is the great great great great grandfather of President Abraham Lincoln and most probably the original source of his Christian name. His daughter Sarah married the first Lincoln (Mordecai Lincoln 1657-1727). Came to America on the ship "Confidence" in 1638. Moved to Hull sometime before 1657. He became a Freeman in1673 and in 1689 became a town representative to the General Court. He is described as a mariner in a deed given by two of his sons in 1707 when he was well over 70 years old. There are no records of his land in Suffolk County, but there is one deed recorded in Plymouth Colony. The land which he owned in Hull was on the Hingham town line, as proved by his will, which was written in Hull on 8 JAN 1716/17. The will mentions six sons, most likely in order of age: Thomas, Abraham, Joseph, Benjamin, John, and Ephraim. Savage lists Josiah Jones as a son of Abraham, but this is wrong. Abraham's inventory was taken 13 FEB 1717/18 by Zechariah Whitman, Joseph Benson, and John Loring. The Will also mentioned wife Sarah, and specifically stated nothing in the Will would be effective until Sarah's death.
