John Sprague appears to have had a close relationship with Captain William Holbrook, who would eventually become his father-in-law. The two of them were instrumental in creating the settlement known as Mendon, Massachusetts, where they finally established permanent residences in 1669. John was appointed Constable, the following year. Most importantly, Mendon was the first settlement attacked in the King Phillips War 14 JUL 1675. There are various dates for his death, but the one adapted here is from Ballou's History of Milford; his will is dated 14 SEP 1683 and was proved 2 NOV 1683.
"Elizabeth Bick" is identified as the daughter of William Holbrook in his will of 9 SEP 1696. A year or two before this event, James Bick had problems with the law and was forced to leave Mendon, moving to Smithfield, Rhode Island.
