INDEX
wager2218
George Soule is one of the original Pilgrims who came to New England on the "Mayflower" in 1620. He was the servant of Edward Winslow and volunteered for the Pequot War in 1637.
One assumes that George Soule was a young adult when he signed the Mayflower Compact and therefore conjecture about where and when he was born usually omits the latest of three possibilities (28 FEB 1615 in Bedford). The second possibility is most frequently cited (21 APR 1605 in Suffolk), while the earliest possibility (9 FEB 1595 in Bedford, son of William) is the most plausible of the three. This theory is still too sketchy to cite here with any accuracy.
From Mayflower Families in Progress:
"GEORGE SOULE b. England bef. 1600; d. Duxbury bef. 22 Jan. 1679. He m. prob. Plymouth bef. 1626 prob. MARY BUCKETT (or BECKET) who d. Duxbury Dec. 1676. Bradford wrote 'But his [Edward Winslow's] man George Sowle is still living, and hath 8 children.' .....George Soule was in Duxbury as early as 27 Sept. 1642 when he was on a Duxbury committee. .....The will of George Soule Sr. of Duxberry dated 11 Aug. 1677, codicil dated 20 Sept. 1677, inventory 22 Jan. 1679, gave lands in Dartmouth to sons Nathanial and Gorge; mentions lands in 'Middleberry' formerly given to daus. Elizabeth and Patience; names daus. Susanna and Mary; eldest son John to have the remainder of his housing and lands. The codicil warned son John that if he disturbed dau. Patienca, then Patience was to have the house and lands at Duxburrow. The account of John Soule mentions 'since my mother died which was three yeer the last December.' .....Children (SOULE) the oldest children b. Plymouth, rest b.
