There are two versions as to John Ingersoll's parents. The first claims that Richard Ingersoll and Anne Langley were not John's parents, but his brother and sister-in-law. Oddly enough, this version does not then recognize the traditional origins of Richard and John Ingersoll, but match them to a town crier in Derby named Thomas Ingersoll, married to Margery Eaton. Meanwhile, the other version that Richard Ingersoll was John's father states that Richard's parents were George Ingersoll and Alice or Alicia Hankins from Bedford. This is the version given below in Avery and supported by Savage, who says the Ingersolls were from Bedford. One has to admit that there could be some very significant confusion in this line. Some sources also list a fourth wife, Judith Felton.
