This is a puzzling fellow, especially since most projects on the Internet list him as being born in 1634 and marrying in 1650 (when he was only 16 years old) to a woman who was 35 years old. Finding the sources for all of this is also difficult since few even attempt to list the sources and simply copy the unlikely information that everyone else has copied (even stating that daughter Mary was born in 1636, two years after her father was born). Thankfully, Savage has attempted some speculation and he is certainly at least one reliable source for the death dates of Timothy Ford and his "unknown" wife:

 

"TIMOTHY, Charlestown 1637, rem. to New Haven 1639, there d. 28 Aug. 1684. He was f. of Matthew and Samuel, beside Mary, wh. m. 20 Nov. 1662, Nathaniel Thorpe; Bethia, m. 1671, Matthew Bellamy; and Elizabeth m. 23 Dec. 1672, Joshua Culver; and his w. whose name is not kn. d. 25 July 1681. Who was Barbara F. that came in the Susan and Ellen 1633 [sic: it arrived in 1635--GMW], aged 16, is unkn. to me. An Elizabeth F. d. at Guilford 1673, perhaps d. of Thomas."

 

We can thus rule out the preposterous birth date of 1634, not to mention the equally preposterous notion that his wife could have been born in New Haven in 1615/6.

 

The frequently cited notion that Timothy also married Elizabeth Knowles early in 1650 (perhaps implying that she died months later) probably stems from mention of Elizabeth Ford, daughter of Alexander Knowles, in Alexander's 1663 will, although it lists Thomas Ford as her husband.
