Killed in an Indian raid.
Some have tried to link him to Governor Thomas Roberts of Dover, New Hampshire, even giving him a birth date of 6 AUG 1614, although these same sources state he was born that day in New Hampshire, which is very unlikely (Thomas Roberts is specifically stated by Savage and others to have arrived in 1623). Traditionally, this Thomas Roberts had seven children and William was not one of him. Savage never linked the two, despite their proximity to one another.
"WILLIAM, Dover 1645, had a fam. and with his s.-in-law was k. by the Ind. in 1675. But whether he had s. or not, is unascert. by the indefatig. Mr. Quint, to whom, for all informat. a. Dover, antiquaries are so much indebt.
"THOMAS, Dover, prob. sett. there with the Hiltons, 1623, was Presid. of the Col. chos. in oppos. to noted John Underhill, had John, b. 1629; Thomas, 1633; Esther; Ann; Elizabeth and Sarah; and d. after 27 Sept. 1673 the date of his will, pro. 30 June foll. Esther m. John Martin; Ann m. James Philbrick; Elizabeth m. Benjamin Heard; and Sarah m. Richard Rich."
