In breaking the impasse surrounding information about this family, one can find perhaps clues in Savage, who has very similar entries for JOHN BALL and THOMAS WAY: BALL, JOHN, Isle of Shoals 1649, of wh. I learn, only from our Suff'k Prob. rec. that he was one of the debtors to est. of Isaac Grosse, of Boston, wh. prob. suppl. him with outfits for his fishing"; and WAY, THOMAS, Isle of Shoals 1649, in few yrs. aft. was liv. in some part of Essex Co." On 3 JUL 1649, in the year that Savage lists for both John Ball and Thomas Way as being at the Isle of Shoals, there is record of four men in partnership receiving land at Cape Neddick in Maine: John Ball, Thomas Waye, Michael Powell and Sylvester Stover. This John Ball was perhaps a son of Savage's John Ball, since the Isle of Shoals and Cape Reddick are in the same vicinity.
