INDEX

According to the Poole family story, George and one or two other siblings were orphans in America after arriving on a ship that had suffered a disease that killed his parents. As of yet, there is no confirmation in naval records or newspapers about this newsworthy incident, although both were not very good at the time. If George and his siblings were made wards of the court, it would have been in the New York state capitol in Albany. In any case, it is a confirmed fact that George was raised by a Quaker family named Thorne (Stephen Thorne 1782-1849 and Anna 1786-1835) in Milan. George in turn raised his children to be Quakers. He is buried with his wife and daughter Elizabeth in the Quaker cemetery between La Fayette and Rock City. Undoubtedly, the Thorne family were descendents of the Quaker Thorne family of Flushing which appears elsewhere in this pedigree as descendants of William Thorne.
