Dominicus Jordan is an interesting historical figure with a famous life that has been exaggerated a bit. A legend written by the Loyalist Edward Seelye, perhaps to stir up patriotic feelings among other Loyalists, depicts him and his sister Mary Ann as orphans raised by Indians in Quebec. Although this legend has Mary Ann marrying an Indian Chief while Dominicus escapes, she probably married a Frenchman in Quebec. History records that only one of seven children, along with Dominicus Sr., died in the Indian attack at Cape Elizabeth 10 AUG 1703. Although the remainder of the family was moved to Quebec by the Indians and French, they all returned, except for Mary Ann. Dominicus was also 19 (not a young boy as the legend claims) when the Indians attacked.
