Chapter One

I really need to get my car fixed, Natalya thought as she practically ran toward her office. This was very difficult considering she was wearing five inch high heels and a skirt. She turned her head to get her hair out of her eyes, and ran into somebody. Hard. Her backpack fell, spilling it’s contents onto the sidewalk. Natalya was knocked down.

“Hey watch it.” Natalya said.

“Sorry. Let me help you up.” The man extended his hand and Natalya grabbed his hand.

“Thanks.” The man helped her pick up her things. She looked up into a pair of striking blue eyes, eyes that looked very familiar. Eyes that were plastered all over MTV. Nick Carter stood in front of her.

“You’re Nick-” Natalya said at the same time Nick said, “You’re Nat--” They both started laughing.

“You’re Natalya DeLoch.”

“How do you know my name?” Natalya inquired.

“My mom loves the ballet and every time you danced, she dragged my whole family to it. At first I hated it, but after watching you dance, I loved it too.” Nick cheeks turned slightly pink.

“Yeah well I don’t dance anymore.” Natalya said. Nick looked at her, puzzled.

“Why did you--”

“Because I wanted to. It was nice meeting you Nick but I have to go.” Natalya turned, and without another word, walked off.

After a hard day of work, Natalya came home exhausted. She took a bath and was ready to go to bed when there was a knock at the door. Natalya tiredly opened it and Nick stood in the hallway.

“How did you find me?” Natalya asked. Nick held out a card.

“You dropped your driver’s license. I thought I’d bring it to you.” Natalya took the license.

“Would you like to come in?” Nick nodded and shyly stepped inside.

“Would you like something to drink?”

“Um, coke please.” When Natalya returned, Nick was staring at a picture on the wall.

“How old were you?” Natalya swallowed hard.

“Eleven. It was my first starring role.”

“I’d like to know more about your dancing.”

“I can’t--”

“You don’t have to tell me why you quit.” Natalya looked at Nick.

“Ok I’ll give you the basics.” Natalya sat down on the couch and Nick followed suit.

“When did you start dancing?” Natalya thought for a moment.

“When I was four. My mom,” Natalya swallowed and looked down at the ground. “My mom was a ballet teacher and I used to watch her dance for hours on end.” Natalya got a dreamy look on her face.

“After watching her, I would try to imitate it, to be graceful like her. She started to teach me to dance and when I was eleven I danced in the Nutcracker.”

“I danced in over 70 ballets from the time I was eleven to the time I was seventeen. I didn’t only dance ballet, I tried hip hop and eventually formed my own style of dancing by combining the two.” Nick looked at her amazed.

“Fatima, our choreographer, would love you.” Natalya laughed.

“The feeling of dancing for all those people is absolutely amazing. When I’m on stage, I’m in my own world. It’s indescribable. I could dance for hours.” Nick smiled.

“I know how that goes. I feel the same way about singing and my fans.”

“Fans...it was amazing how many friends I had at such a young age.” Nick shifted on the couch.

“I know I said I wouldn’t ask this, but after hearing you talk about it so passionately, I still can’t see why you quit.”

“I can’t talk about it Nick. I think you should go.” Nick quietly let himself out the door as he heard the sounds of muffled sobbing. He was determined to find out why such a talented dancer had suddenly quit.
