(1 week later)
“Alyssa! Ryan’s at the door!” Alyssa slowly walked past her mom and out into the backyard. Ryan was sitting on a lounge chair.
“Hey Lyss.” Alyssa sat down next to him, not saying anything.
“Have you made a decision?” Ryan asked softly. Tears clouded Alyssa’s dark brown eyes and spilled down her cheeks.
“I think--” Alyssa stopped, unable to go on.
“I think we should just be friends.” Unshed tears shone in Ryan’s sapphire eyes.
“Okay.” Ryan got up and turned to leave. Alyssa caught sight of his tearstained face as he turned to face her.
“I still love you Lyss.” Ryan said. As he left, Alyssa started sobbing. She felt as though her heart had been ripped out but at the same time, she felt relieved. I’m finally free.

Alyssa Morgan
I can’t believe I actually broke up with him. But I feel so relieved. And for the first time in six months, I feel free.

Ryan Brennon
I never thought she would break up with me. Alyssa just never seemed like the type. I would love to say that she didn’t hurt me, that I don’t love her, but I can’t lie. I love her more than any girl I have ever known and I’m will never let her go, because we’re going to stay friends, even though we’re not dating. Right?

Lynn Michaels looked at her empty room, filled with sadness. In one week, she would be leaving everything behind. All her friends, her home, her boyfriend. Her heart constricted painfully as she thought about Sam.
“Lynn?” A voice said from outside her door.
“Come in.” Lynn said, and her mom opened the door.
“Lynn, are you all packed?” Lynn mutely nodded.
“That’s good because we’re leaving early.” Lynn’s mouth dropped open.
“How early?”
“Two days.” As Lynn’s mom left the room, Lynn started to sob. Two days was never going to be enough time to say goodbye to her friends. This really sucks.
**********
Lynn Michaels I called all my friends and told them the horrible news. They all agreed that they were going to throw me a party. In two days, I’ll be in a brand new state completely friend and boyfriend less. Life sucks.

Sam Wilson
Two days. Two days is all I have left with my girlfriend. Sure we’ve had some bad times. I broke up with her a couple of times just because I was a complete asshole. But I really do love her. I’ve never had any doubt and I never will.

Trista Morgan walked out of a trendy boutique carrying three new bags. She wore a blue halter top that showed off her tattoo and bellybutton ring. Her parents were going to kill her but Trista could hardly keep the smile off her face. Her and Michael had had their first time and she felt like a new woman. Of course, there was the tiny fact that Trista wasn’t on the pill and Michael had not used a condom.
“I have nothing to worry about.” Trista said to herself. She was going home the next day and was bringing Michael with her.
“I can’t wait for them to meet him.”
************
(Next day-4:00 p.m.)
Alyssa had just finished getting dressed when Trista came home.
“Trista?” Alyssa called out from the top of the stairs.
“It’s me Lyss.” Alyssa walked down the stairs, excited to see her sister. What Alyssa was not expecting was a blond haired boy blue tips, a nose, chin, and eyebrow ring.
“Um, who are you?” Alyssa inquired.
“Alyssa, this is my boyfriend Michael. Michael, this is my sister Alyssa.” Alyssa smiled at Michael, then noticed the flash of metal on Trista’s stomach.
“You got you bellybutton pierced?” Trista nodded then stuck out her tongue.
“Your tongue too? Trista, mom’s gonna kill you!”
“Not for the piercing.” Alyssa raised one perfectly plucked eyebrow.
“What else did you do?” Trista turned around so Alyssa could see her tattoo.
“YOU GOT A TATTOO? You are SO dead when Mom finds out and I can’t wait to see what Dad says.”
“Please don’t tell. Promise me Lyss.” Alyssa sighed.
“Fine. I won’t tell but you have to promise me that you will.”
“I’ll think about it.” Trista said as she sauntered out the door.
*****************************
The next day, Alyssa, Trista, Julie, Sam, and Josh gathered out on Lynn’s back porch. They were throwing her a going away party before she left that evening for Oregon.
“I can’t believe your parents want you to go early.” Julie said, grabbing some chips.
“I can’t believe you’re leaving.” Sam said softly.
“I think we’ll leave you two alone.” Josh said, ushering everybody inside.
“I don’t want to leave.” Lynn said, starting to cry.
“I don’t want a long distance relationship Lynn, but I just want you to know that I will always love you.” Lynn nodded.
“I understand. It would be unfair to both of us if we stayed together.”
“But I do love you Lynn.” Lynn softly kissed him on the cheek.
“I love you too Sam. Never forget that.”
