Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe was born Norma Jeane Mortenson on June 1, 1926 in Los Angeles,
California to Gladys Baker. She was later baptized Norma Jeane Baker. When her
mother was committed to a mental institution, she was placed in multiple foster homes.
On June 19, 1942, she married Jim Dougherty. When he left to join the Marines in
1944, she began working as a model. They divorced in June of 1946. On August 26,
1946, she signed her first studio contract with Twentieth Century Fox, making $125.00
per week. She changed her name to Marilyn Monroe and became the biggest and
brightest star ever to grace the silver screen. On January 14, 1954, she married
baseball legend Joe DiMaggio. After nine months of marriage, they divorced because
of Joe's increasing jealousy over her sexy image, on October 27, 1954. On June 20,
1956, she married playright Arthur Miller. They divorced on January 20, 1961. At the
1962 Golden Globe Awards, Marilyn took home the award for Female World Film
Favorite. On August 4, 1962, Marilyn Monroe died in her sleep at her Brentwood,
California home. She had apparently overdosed on prescription drugs. Foul play has
always been suspected, but never proven. She was laid to rest on August 8, 1962 in
the Corridor of Memories, #24, at Westwood Memorial Park in Los Angeles,
California. She was only 36 years old. She made 30 movies in her career. She was
never able to finish her 31st., which was called Something's Got To Give.
