The 'Regenerarts' project offers a care-taking service with a team of skilled volunteers to carry out essential repairs etc. Depending on the size and dimension of the property we would convert the space into either workshops and studios for artists or exhibition and performance/rehearsal space for theatre groups, dance companies community groups etc. We take on contracts of anything from 6 months to two years and have had exhibition properties for as little as four weeks. This arrangementt means the building is secure and in use, so therefore less vulnerable to theft or illegal occupation, the property also looks more attractive to prospective buyers as they can see the space functioning. |
manpower : our projects are run on an entirely voluntary basis by the artists involved and a core team of personnel focussed on the logistics of setting up each space. As well as these ground projects involving the management and the transformation of under-used buildings, we have an ever increasing network of creative artists and performers available for collaborative community projects. Another added bonus is the positive publicity attracted to the property and therefore its owners for their support by way of donating the premises as a short term community resource instead of it becoming a demoralizing eyesore to the surrounding community. |
The initiative of this and all our previous work has been to create self sustaining projects, to show by example that such valuable community resources can be created and maintained with a minimum of financial backing and administrative organisation. This self-help philosophy and pro-active nature has been the foundation of our work and is our main resource. As well as the efforts of those involved on the ground we have received support from all kinds of commercial and private individuals and organisations offering rent free use of space and donations of materials in return for secure care for their property and positive exposure in media and local communities. |
With the support of such organisations willing to reduce or waver ground costs and the voluntary efforts of the artists themselves we can channel all available financial energy into the buildings and the work going on in them. Artists hired through the projects activities give a donation to its maintenance as when a piece of work is sold through one of the collective exhibitions. The Core group of artists offer between them a varied range of arts related services and skills with a baseline of multi-media computer equipment pooled by the collective members sufficient to form a basic promotion and publicity service for individuals as well as focus on collective projects. |
