COMPOSITION GUIDE - ROUGH Draft DUE 3/17!
Every composition should have:
1)Clear, legible, and ALIGNED notation
2) Title and tempo marking (use a metronome)
3) Dynamic markings and articulations
4) Meter on first staff only
5) Measure numbers (by 5's)
6) Use a ruler for straight bar lines
7) Clef and key signatures on every line
Level I |
- write a melody (to fit a given harmony?)
- 8 to 16 bars in length

- transpose to 2 related keys

Level II |
- write a melody
- add simple harmony
|
- use block chords with bass and arppegio accompaniment
- transpose to 2 to 3 keys
|
Level III |
- Full Composition
- free form accompaniment and figured bass
|
- modulate to at least 1 key
|
