This year's field show is themed "Music From Behind the Red
Curtain" featuring a variety of music written by Russian composers and other
Russian music:
Our Music
Opener - Pictures
A powerful start to our show ending in a company front and suicide
drill.
Body - Polovetsian Dances
Starts off with the "Polo Solo," a duet performed by Nathan James
Brauer (Sophomore - Mellophone) and Ian McPherson (Freshman - Trumpet), and
another solo performed by Nichole Marchal (Sophomore - Trombone).
Concludes with a vigorous fanfare and yet another powerful ending.
Closer - Russian Christmas Music
Begins with a clarinet feature (including contra bass and bass
clarinet) and slips into a solo performed by Brittney Smith (Junior -
Clarinet) with the rest of the band doing "special movements" in the far
corner of the field.
Tempo is picked up with a "tuba solo" and trombone feature leading
to a series of many fanfares and dynamic, intense chords.
After a unison hold, woodwinds conquers the band playing a
"hymn-like" melody. Brass soon reclaim their territory with the same
melody and the drumline gets jealous and earns a drum-break.
All winds soon redominate with the trombone feature from eariler
in the piece except everyone is playing and it is much more robust.
Finally the song ends with an impressive, formidable fanfare.
