7-16 from ELLA FITZGERALD: SO DANCO SAMBA. Jazz Birdies of Paradise J-BOP 041.
From: Sjef Hoefsmit
The whole Milan concert, including 14 selections by the Ellington
band prior to Ella's portion and with the exception of So Danco
Samba and St. Louis Blues is issued on Jazz*Blues*Soul (CD) JBS
93B02b.
The Brussels concert has the correct date and nothing has been
issued previously.
And foidermore:
The rest of the "Jazz Birdies" disc claims to be Ella's set from Newport, July 4, 1957. This was originally released as half of the LP ELLA AND BILLIE AT NEWPORT, which is supposedly coming out from Polygram this year; the Billie portion is on the complete Billie box but the Ella section hasn't been legally on CD yet.
However, the tunes don't line up exactly... I don't have the LP, I only have the listing in the Nicholson book, but here's what I can figure out:
This Can't Be Love +
I Got It Bad +
Body And Soul +
April in Paris +
I've Got A Crush on You +
I Can't Give You Anything But Love + *
Air Mail Special + *
Too Close For Comfort *
Just One of Those Things *
Lullaby of Birdland *
Tenderly *
Tunes marked + are supposedly on Verve 6022/8234
Tunes marked * are on the "Jazz Birdies of Paradise"
