Most of these 78s are nice and clean, having come from a radio
station or
store stock. (#11 earned some jukebox man a whole lot of nickels).
Majestic
didn't have the spiffiest sound quality, of course. Quite a few
sides will
start out nice and bright, then the frequency response gradually
goes south
toward the end. On "'Way Down Yonder In New Orleans"
Majestic's original
source (presumably a 16" lacquer) appears to have been damaged
before they
dubbed it for this release. The 78 I have doesn't show a trace
of wear, but
you'll hear what it sounds like. (I tried every stylus I have
on it).
I'll send all the discs when I've completed the series (hopefully
in a week
or two) unless you'd like to have this one earlier.

Got another Prima disc done today. #4 and #5 together have
all my
Majestics except one side. (If I'd used a Sony for the original
burn of #4
instead of a disc with half a minute less capacity, I'd have gotten
them
all on. So it goes. You can reshuffle them if desired, of course).
This one is mono. They definitely sound better that way. I knew
I should
have asked you first! I can convert #4 to mono but I'd rather
get the
whole series done first.
You're right - you did only send me two "Prima Miscellany"
discs. I took a
quick glance at the lists in my computer and misread them. I
can use
number three for the disc with the Brunswicks, though, so I'll
leave #4 and
#5 numbered as they are. The Mercurys, Deccas, Varsitys, Robin
Hoods and
the one remaining Majestic side should take another two discs,
maybe a bit
less.
