Social Ministry

The Social Ministry Committee is responsible for supporting and creating programs that serve the social needs of our community(s) and give witness to God's care."

The Social Ministry Committee is comprised of people who care about those less fortunate than ourselves. Each committee member is concerned about different groups of people. The committee as a whole identifies areas of need for these groups; designs specific activities to assist in satisfying these needs; and finally carries out the activities -- performs the actual work sponsored by the committee.

The activities undertaken by the committee may be as simple as putting up a poster soliciting volunteers to work for a day at Habitat for Humanity. Or they might be as extensive as planning and running our almost-annual Time and Talents auction. 

We also are part of a state-wide social ministry known as Lutheran Social Services.

Souper Bowl Sunday collection of cans of soup and noisy collection of money

Time and Talents Auction. Fund raiser for Rutilio Grande community

Collection of kitchen and clothing items for the Career Closet in Waukesha.

Collection of furniture for Project Move.

Collection of school supplies for the Waukesha Salvation Army and local schools

Adopted highway cleanup with H.A.Y.

Third World Handicrafts shop sale at our Christmas in July celebration

August Fund raiser

Man the food stand at the Piggly Wiggly on a Saturday

Sept - Oct

Coffee sale to support the Lutheran World Relief Coffee Project

Oct - Nov

Collect food to build Thanksgiving food basket(s) for the Milwaukee AIDS Project

Nov - Dec

Send Christmas cards to River Hills Nursing Home residents. Provide gifts for needy family(s) or set up a giving tree for an organization

We are actively looking for people interested in helping other people. The committee meets once a month for most of the year.   If you are interested in helping others, we would like to have you join us. If you can't commit to participating in regular committee meetings, please consider volunteering to help out on one or more of our activities.
