'CATS' Fan Art - Crossed with 'Crazy For You'

As you've probably guessed, this is a cross between 'CATS' and 'Crazy For You'. I first saw 'Crazy For You' New Year's Eve 2000 on PBS and I fell in love with it. The pics from January to June or so are from memory of what I'd seen on New Year's Eve. PBS aired it again in June and I was able to record it, which helped with my accuracy in terms of characters' looks. I saw 'Crazy For You' live during August of last year and 'CATS' during September.

I discovered 'CATS' long before I discovered 'Crazy For You'. I happened to find a site dedicated to musicals (Musicals.Net) and 'CATS' and 'Crazy For You' were listed there. I've always been a big fan of cats, so I was intrigued by a musical about them. I rented the movie from the library and I was hooked the first time I watched it. 'CATS' was the first fan community I got involved with and I made some lasting friends.

Anyway, sorry, I didn't mean to babble on like that. Perhaps I should move those stories to the main pages of each of those musicals. Anyway, they're my two biggest favorites, so it only seems natural that I combine them. Enjoy!

Crazy For You- I'd just seen 'Crazy For You' and was inspired to draw this pic.

Which is the real Zangler?- Inspired by 'Crazy For You', one of them isn't the real Zangler. Try to figure out which.
You're doing this for me?- Demeter as Tess from 'Crazy For You'.
Naughty Baby- Bombalurina as Irene Roth from 'Crazy For You'.
You're better than some cowgirl- Jellylorum as Mother from 'Crazy For You'.
I don't get it!- Etcetera as the Patsy from 'Crazy For You'. The way I did her stripes makes her look mad, but she isn't.
Bobby unmasked- The fake Zangler revealed.
I want you outta here in 24 hours- Tugger as Lank Hawkins from 'Crazy For You'.
Things are looking up!- Bustopher Jones as Everett Baker from 'Crazy For You'.
Slap That Bass- Alonzo as a cowboy and Cassandra as a Follies girl from 'Crazy For You'.
I'm Bobby Child- Mistoffelees as Bobby Child from 'Crazy For You'.
Sweet, embraceable you- Victoria as Polly Baker from 'Crazy For You'.
Things Are Looking Up- Rumblepurr as Everest Muffin from my unfinished Crazy For You parody. The orange patch was originally on the wrong side of his face, so I erased my writing, flipped the picture, and added the text.
Thanks, Polly- Pouncival as Billy the Kid from Crazy For You. I orginally didn't give him any ears, but I added them later on. That's why they look funny.
Stiff upper lip- Skimble as Eugene Fodor from Crazy For You. I dun like the coloring.
Carry on!- Jenny as Patricia Fodor from Crazy For You. I don't like her stripes.
You're strong!- Asparagus (AJ) as Junior from Crazy For You. He has that expression 'cuz Victoria/Polly has just picked up Mistoffelees/Bobby when Asparagus/Junior couldn't.
Tessie, I do this for you- Munkustrap as Bela Zangler from Crazy For You. Following the above line, Tess says, this isn't like you and Zangler responds with: I know, that's vhat vorries me. (He has a Hungarian accent)
Again?!- Rumpelteazer as one of the Follies Girls. In the PBS show, she's the only white Follies Girl with black hair and she wears a lot of blue. This particular line comes right after Misto/Bobby says, "Okay vunce more, from the top!" after 'Slap That Bass'.
Yeah, right- Mungojerrie as Harry, the bartender, from 'Crazy For You'. I noticed, in the PBS show, Harry picks up the black-haired Follies Girl after Misto/Bobby calls, "Lunch, lunch, lunch!" This particular line is more of a thought than a line, when Misto/Bobby is trying to imitate Vic/Polly and not doing a good job of it. He looks like a girl.
Slap that Bass!- Alonzo as Pete from 'Crazy For You'. Naturally, my two favorite males in the shows would be combined. ;-D It's basically the very last line of the song, 'Slap that Bass'. He's supposed to be wearing a flannel shirt.
Hey!- Exotica as a Follies Girl. This is one of the two colored women. One wears blue and the other wears red. Red goes better with brown, so I picked the one who wears red. This actually started out as a Tantomille pic, but I change my mind. I stink at drawing clothes. This line comes right after Misto/Bobby tells Moose/Quaxo, "You vill not be dancing in this number."
Zoom, zoom- Cassandra as Mitzi from 'Crazy For You'. Yes, I know which Follies Girl she is: the one who tap dances in toe shoes (in the PBS version). How do I know this? I e-mailed the actress who played her in the PBS version and she told me. As for choosing Cassandra, Rebecca Parker played her in London. I blended colors, sort of, with this one.
*tap, tap, tappity tap*- It's Etcetera/Patsy dancing during 'Slap That Bass'.
If I can only get me someone to slap that bass!- Asparagus/Junior doing a dance move Misto/Bobby disguised as Munk/Zangler during 'Slap That Bass'.
Excuse me- Bom/Irene has come out to Deadrock to get Misto/Bobby to go back to New York. Needless to say, Misto/Bobby isn't interested and Tugger/Lank comes in before she has a chance to convince Misto/Bobby. She gets tired of listening to them and interrupts them. I originally drew this so I could get the hairstyle right and just kept going. Her lips are messed up.
*whistling*- I don't like this one very much. It was my first attempt at the part during 'Stiff Upper Lip' where everyone's whistling. I liked it at first, but it disappeared the more I looked at it.
*whistling*- The same scene as above except it's Vic/Polly instead of Misto/Bobby and this is worse. I didn't even like at all.
Oh my God- Vic/Polly's just found out that the Tom she thought was Munk/Zangler is actually Misto/Bobby. She's glancing from one to the other and says, "I don't even know who I kissed last night." (Munk/Zangler arrived the night before when Misto/Bobby was trying to tell her the truth) Both of them answer, "Me." and she says, "Oh my God." Her head's supposed to be tilted forward and her ears are to the side with embarressment.
And they didn't even come to see the show!- Plato as Jimmy, one of the cowboys. I always think of Jimmy as Pete's friend and Plato seems to be teamed up with Alonzo a lot, so why not? As for the line, the company's having a meeting to decide what to do about the show and Cass/Mitzi, whom Plato/Jimmy hangs out with quite a bit, has just said, "It was kind of depressing with only two people showing up." Kind of? Try a lot.
*dancing*- Misto/Bobby demonstrating a dance move for Pounce/Billy.
If I can only get me someone to slap that bass- Misto/Bobby demonstrating a dance move to Asparagus/Junior.
*whistling*- Yep, I redid the two whistling pics and taped 'em together. This is much better than the previous two and it's my favorite at this point in time.
I got rhythm- I drew this more to get a feel for Vic/Polly's hairstyle and the dress she wears for this particular song.
O-kay- I drew this to figure out Tugger/Lank's hairstyle and I don't like the way the face itself came out. This is just before Bom/Irene starts to sing "Naughty Baby".
Bill Baily/Wyatt & Carbucketty/Billy- There was a challenge on the CATSart list to draw Bill Baily and Carbucketty and this was my answer.
*gasp*- Tantomille as the other black Follies Girl. (see 'Hey!') One thing I try to do with characters that have skin color showing is to try to figure out what the fur color itself should be. In Tant's case: black.
Zoom, zoom- Actually, this isn't in the musical, but I really wanted to get this down on paper. I based the pose on my 'Victoria dancing' pic. It's Sillabub as Louise, the Follies Girl that goes into the theater to do Vic/Polly's number when Vic/Polly goes to New York to find Misto/Bobby.
