The story so far
Once,
on a very busy planet
Once upon a time, there was a busy planet.
There still is, and what's more, you're on it!
It wasn't always this busy.
Things used to happen more slowly,
but time went by,
and we all got a little impatient.
We were never really satisfied,
and after a while, we wanted more.
THIS IS THE STORY OF WHAT HAPPENED NEXT
In the still of the night,
you can sometimes hear, the 'wild' cry out.
In the daytime too, there are cries to be heard.
As soon as one person was heard to cry out for "more", it seemed like everyone wanted more.
More of this, more of that.
More of anything they could get their hands on.
It was even said by a little fellow called Oliver!
"Oliver Twist has asked for MORE!" went the famous line from CHARLES DICKENS's novel, "Oliver Twist".
Oliver called out for more, and we're still calling.
We want MORE!
More than our share, more than enough,
more than everyone else.
What do we want?
We want MORE!
When do we want it?
We want it NOW!
It's the modern disease. Greed.
But we don't call it that anymore,
we call it SUCCESS.
Granted, in Oliver's case, he and the other orphan's in the workhouse, probably could have benefited from a little more, but most of us in the West, have more than we need,
and we're still not satisfied.
There's a joke in the quilting world, that
"She who dies with the most material, WINS!"
It's kind of like that with modern capitalism too,
and who of us knows when to stop?
Is it time, when you have more than your neighbour?
Or when you have more than all your neighbours?
Is it in fact time, when you have
more than entire countries?
More than all the people, in all the world?
(Already there are people who are richer
than entire countries).
Is this the inevitable end result of capitalism,
that the successful, will earn phenomenal amounts,
giving them greater positions of power,
than is good for them,
or for anyone else?
What about for the good of the planet?
This is for you to decide,
because it's your world too,
just as much as it is theirs.
The answer's for you to find.
The solution is also in your hands.
THE PROBLEM
The problem is, we are ALL part of the problem,
and we must ALL be part of the solution too.
MONSTERS
There's a monster out there somewhere,
destroying as it goes,
there's a monster out there somewhere,
everybody knows,
there's a monster out there somewhere,
and there's nothing you can do,
unless you ever find out that,
the monster is YOU!
