Well, I got all my ALS calls. It wasn't easy, and I might have had to embellish a few things, but I got them. The station I was at (BCFR 60 in Cape Canaveral, B shift) was a really great station, and I would like to express my gratitude to those guys, for treating me very well. They didn't mind me invading on their space for a month, and Paramedic Don Snyder, my preceptor, taught me a great deal, and helped me to overcome my low self esteem on calls. I would also like to extend my thanks to Paramedic Rita Hicks, who was a huge benefit to me as a student, as well as several other students in my class. Thank you!!

Well, I took my final skills test on June 30th. I did an IV station, which was starting a IV with sterile techniques, as well as knowing how to draw up drugs and hang drips. It was okay, I did fine. Then I had a BTLS station, an airway station, a cardiac strip station, and of course, the dreaded MEGA CODE station. I failed my first megacode, I was so nervous that when we came up on an unconscious, unresponsive male, I totally forgot to give him a "coma cocktail" of Narcan and D50, and just worked him when he coded. I did the code perfectly, but I failed because all I had to do was push Narcan. DOH!!! Well, I did a retest mega code later that day, a c/p and sob, and did fine. I really felt confident doing it, too, so I was really surprised. Maybe I know more than I'm letting myself believe.....

So that's it! I got my certificate from BCC, and I sit for my state boards July 28th (wish me luck!!)and then I will be a REAL PARAMEDIC!! Wow, I can't believe it. I'm actually pretty proud of myself. I plan on keeping my options open for a job position, so stay tuned for more info....... - holly
