The Lobdell Family
****
(Generations One & Two)
.
(**by children's names indicates Our Direct Line)

I have looked at several sources written about the Lobdell Family but as I have just recently discovered that I've descended from the Lobdell line, I will not pretend to be an expert.  I will write about 'Our Direct Line' and refer you to other sources to enable you to learn more about your heritage.

I have been in contact with a Lobdell cousin who has given me much information from a Lobdell family book written by Julia Harrison Lobdell, published in 1907.

I understand that a book entitled "Simon Lobdell, 1646 of Milford, CT, and His Descendants, Also of Nicholas Lobden (Lobdell), 1635 of Hingham, Mass., and Some Descendants" by Julia Harrison Lobdell was published by Higginson Book Co. in January 1989.

Also, there is information I found on the Kansas Heritage Server regarding the Lobdell Family History.

If you have further information that I can use on this site, please contact me.  You will find my e-mail address at the bottom of the page~

Our Line ~ Simon Lobdell
(Generation Two)

(III)--**Simon Lobdell
Date of birth unknown, but probably around 1625 in England
Died in Milford, Connecticut previous to Oct. 4, 1717, as his Will, written Jan. of 1703/04, was probated on Oct. 4, 1717.  (To see his Will, click here)

According to *Doug Lobdell's website, Simon probably "came as a young lad with one of a party from Hereford, England (a shire in West of England, bordering on Wales) in 1645, at which time history tells us the second party came - that his sisters Ann and Elizabeth came at the same time but remained in Boston."

A framed list which hangs in the Town Clerk's office at Milford, CT, contains about forty "after planters" names of Milford, among which is "Simon Lobdell."  Public records from 1646 indicates that Simon had been given a half-acre of ground by the "first planters" of the town.  In 1655 his name appears as a resident of Milford.  May 21, 1657 he took the freeman's oath at Hartford, CT and was a tax-payer there in 1667.  His sisters married prosperous men of Springfield, Massachusetts and Simon went to Springfield and was a prison-keeper from 1666 to 1674.

He marrried Persis Pierce 1660 in Charlestown, MA.  She was the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Pierce of Charlestown, MA. (No proof of his marriage nor birth of Mary, his first child, has been found).

Simon returned to Milford, CT, where his wife Persis was admitted to the First Church of Milford on Jan. 7, 1677.   Simon was admitted to the same church on April 9, 1710.

In 1681 Simon purchased 60 acres at Stony River, between Springfield and Windsor, but did not settle there.  He also had interests in Hull, MA in 1682.

Simon and Persis had four daughters and one son, Joshua Lobdell, from whom my family descends.  In Milford, CT, their children married, and Simon died.

Children of Simon and Persis Lobdell:

(1)--Mary Lobdell - (born 1667) m. David Wooster (born 1666), son of Edward Wooster

(2)--Elizabeth Lobdell - (born Oct. 7, 1669 in Springfield, MA) m. William Roberts

(3)--**Joshua Lobdell - (born Dec. 23, 1671 in Springfield, MA - died before Oct. 31, 1743 in Ridgefield, CT) married twice:  Mary Burwell Aug. 11, 1695 in Milford, CT and Eunice Olmstead 1713 in Ridgefield, CT.

(4)--Anna Lobdell - (born Dec. 1, 1674 in Springfield, MA)

(5)--Rebecca Lobdell - (born 1677 in Springfield, MA - died Feb. 2, 174- in Milford, CT) m. Deliverance Downs (born 1669), son of John Downs and Mary.
