Columbus and Sallie Preston Rhea were married Feb. 12, 1861 at the Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church, 2 miles from Bluff City, Sullivan County, Tennessee.  Columbus was from Albany County, New York and moved to the Mountain of Lookout before the Civil War, purchasing 400 acres of land for $1.00 per acre in 1856.  He was a minister and teacher, being in the employment of the American Sunday School Union of Philadelphia, organizing Sunday Schools and installing libraries.  He was referred to as "Reverend C. C. Jackson," graduating from the School of Divinity in Pennsylvania  When he died, he was one of the oldest residents of Lookout Mountain.  He is buried close to his homeplace in the small family cemetery on the Georgia side of the Mountain in Dade County, on the grounds of Covenant College and where Lookout Mountain Hotel once stood.  He was inclined to write poetry and that gift has been passed down to several generations.

Sallie was the daughter of Robert Preston Rhea, a school teacher from Sullivan County, and Nancy Davidson.  Sallie was the granddaughter of Matthew Rhea 1V of Fahan Parish Co., Donegal, Ireland and Jannette 'Jane' Preston of Walnut Grove, Washington County, Virginia.  Sallie's great-grandparents were the Reverend Joseph Rhea and Elizabeth McIlwaine of Ireland and John Preston and Eleanor Fairman of Walnut Grove, Virginia.

Columbus and Sallie had nine children, one of which was my paternal grandmother....Nancy Virginia Jackson who married Josiah Edward Rhea, son of Dr. John Preston Rhea, Sr. and Matilda Ann Longacre.  Dr. John Preston Rhea, Sr. and Sallie Preston Rhea were brother and sister.
