An Un-Named Poem
For His Daughter
written by
Lysle Edward Rhea
(1906-1971)

(written 1962)

.
 Daughter is all grown up now.
She's just as smart as she can be:
She tells us what to do and how
We know so little -- Ma and Me
~~~~~~~~~~
When she was just a little girl
She used to sit upon our knee,
And keep our heads all in a whirl
Asking questions of -- Ma and Me
~~~~~~~~~~
But now we are a pair of fools
As any one can plainly see.
We didn't learn enough in schools.
We're very stupid -- Ma and Me
~~~~~~~~~~
As days go by and time goes on
And we have crossed that Mystic Sea,
Her chance to realize is gone
We're not so stupid -- Ma and Me
by Me
( When my daddy wrote that poem for me,
on a small piece of yellow scratch
paper, inscribed at the bottom with
"Ship via  THE  BAY  LINE . . . anywhere"
 ... I was in my teen age years
and I have to admit that it kind
of hurt my feelings.
Now, having grown-up children
and grandchildren,
I must say that Daddy
knew a lot about life )
