In order to take such tests as the Air Frame and/or Air Power Tests, Parachute Riggers Examination, Pilots, Examination, and other Mechanics Tests for licensing through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), DANTES has now been commissioned to provide such tests. Check with your Education Counselor at the Fort Bragg/Pope AFB Education Center before taking the tests. Taking the tests through DANTES will save you considerable money. The Veterans Administration will pay for active duty soldiers with GI Educational benefits the costs of the tests. Check with the Fort Bragg/Pope AFB Education Center and in order to find out more about the VA paying for your certification tests, press here.
Those soldiers wishing to take the tests should call the Duty Officer at Flight Standards:
Authorization can be provided at the following times and places in the Fort Bragg/Pope AFB area.
Note: Remember that you can gain authorization 5 days a week in Greensboro.
Authorization will permit you to take three written tests which are required for the Air Frame and Airpower License. As of July 19 2001, each written test can be taken for $70.00 each ($210.00 for all three tests) at Cape Fear Aviation. Dale Smith of Cape Fear Aviation can provide information about taking the oral examination in Clinton and other locales or press here to find the Mechanic Examiners who should be able to administer your oral test. The time limit on the written test for the A & P License is 2 hours for each test. Any failed written test can be retaken once without charge to the soldiers. There will be a charge if a soldier fails the test more than once. Check with Cape Fear Aviation for any rate changes. Normal hours for Cape Fear Aviation are from 0800 to 1700. Testing can be arranged at other times by calling Cape Fear Aviation at (910) 483-4114. Cape Fear Aviation is located at Grays Creek Airport which is 10 miles South of Fayetteville on Hwy 87. About one mile south of Gray's Creek Superette Market (located on Hwy 87) make a left onto Butler-Nursery Rd (If you reach Nance's Grocery Store on Hwy 87, you have gone too far and need to turn around to reach Butler-Nursery Rd).
