A Orientation-- (1) Observe functioning of a telephone exchange. (2) Assist an experienced dial central office repairer. (3) Develop skills in use and application of systems terminology. (4) Assist central office repairer in installation and wiring of distributing frames. (5) Develop shop cleaning techniques. (6) Apply safety practices used in telephone central offices. 500
B Perform Preventive Maintenance of Dial Central Office Equipment-- (1) Prepare maintenance forms for dial central office equipment. (2) Clean and inspect telephone switching can covers, relay contacts, equipment cables, and terminal blocks. (3) Clean, lubricate, and inspect electrical stepping switches. 900
C Develop Skill of Aligning Dial Telephone Central Office Equipment through Use of Proper Procedures, Test Sets, Tools and Manuals to Adjust and Align: (1) Line Conditioning equipment. (2) Intercept equipment. (3) AUTOVON trunk circuit equipment. 900
D Install Dial Telephone Central Office Equipment-- (1)Observe installation practices and assist experienced repairers. (2) Recognize significance and apply cable color codes. (3) Develop skills in proper soldering techniques for cables and wires. (4) Develop proficiency in the techniques of wire wrapping. 900
E Test Dial Central Office Equipment Under Supervision of Experienced Repairer: (1) Operate test dest to determine faults within an outside central office. (2) Perform testing procedures using multitesters and oscilloscopes. (3) Develop skill in detection, identification, isolation and finding equipment, and line faults. 900
F Repair Dial Central Office Equipment Under Supervision of an Experienced Repairer-- (1) Identify defective parts. (2) Remove and replace defective parts using soldering gun and required hand tools. (3) Apply relay adjustments chart information in final adjustment and test operate dial central office equipment. (4) Requisition repair parts. (5) Test repaired components. 1900

A total of 576 hours of related instruction is required in order to complete this program. Related instruction credit may be awarded individuals registered in the trade of Central Office Telephone Installer and Repairer taken from an accredited institution, providing the courses are similar to the courses taken for a Central Office Telephone Installer and Repairer program in a community college/vocational school.
