Work Process Schedule for the Trade of

Aircraft Electrical Mechanic

Element Work Processes Hours
A Orientation-- (1) Develop skills in proper use and be able to care and store tools. (2) Observe experienced mechanic performing dismantling, inspecting, and cleaning electrical equipment with which a repairer is associated. (3) Apply proper terminology the repairer will use on the job. (4) Utilize safety practices and review of safety precautions pertaining to the repairer's particular job requirements. (5) Observe mechanic repairer applying proper use, maintenance, and care of tools. 500
B Operational Checks and Adjustments on Airbourne and Associated Ground Based Equipment.-- (1) Perform communications check to insure overall operations of avionic communication systems and intercommunications systems using auxiliary power supply. (2) Measure radio frequency power output to insure that transmitter is operating at minimum acceptable standards (using auxiliary power unit and wattmeter). (3) Performs navigation equipment checks, both visual and audio, for proper instrument landing system and in flight navigational aids operation using auxiliary power supply, flight line tester, and signal generators. (4) Adjusts antennas for receivers and transmitters for maximum radio frequency transfer during operation using auxiliary power supply, wattmeter, meter on front of receiver/transmitters, proper hand tools. (5) Adjusts squelch and audio levels to insure proper functioning during flight to provide pilot proper audio level in headset with minimum noise level: auxiliary power supply, Headset, and proper hand tools. (6) Adjust stabilization equipment for proper operation during flight and landing using auxiliary power supply, flight line test set, equipment manuals, and proper hand tools. (7) Adjust automatic flight control system for proper operation during flight using Auxiliary power supply, flight line tester, equipment manuals, and proper hand tools. 1200
C Troubleshoot Airbourne and Associated Ground Basic Avionic Equipment:-- (1) Locates, diagnoses, and replaces malfunctioning major components using auxiliary power supply, flight line testers, headsets, schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, multimeters, proper hand tools. (2) Diagnose equipment malfunctions and isolate equipment trouble to major component using auxiliary power supply, flight line testers, headsets, schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment manuals, multimeters, and proper hand tools. (3) Replaces readily accessible and easily replaces components, fuses, indicator lights, microphones, headsets, and antennas using equipment manuals, schematic wiring diagrams, proper hand tools, multimeters. (4) Checks for proper voltages readings in avionic systems wiring harnesses using Auxiliary power units, multimeters, wiring diagrams, schematic diagrams, appropriate hand tools. (5) Replaces defective wiring associated with avionic systems, being careful not to cause further damage, using technical manuals and proper hand tools. 1400
D Installs Aircraft and Ground Based Avionic Equipment Wiring Harnesses -- Fabricate aircraft and ground based avionic equipment wiring harnesses to include striping new wire to proper length, crimping connection on new wiring harnesses firmly, stamping new wires with appropriate numbers, checking new wires for continuity and shorts between wires, lacing new wiring neatly into a wiring harness, and installing new wiring harness into aircraft replacing old wiring hareness. 1300
E Repairs Avionic Systems in Aircraft-- (1) Performs repair in aircraft of avionic systems by substituting major components to make the system operational using auxiliary power supply, technical manuals, and proper hand tools. (2) Performs repair in aircraft of avionic systems by measuring continuity and voltage readings on wiring harness using auxiliary power supply, wiring diagrams, schematics, and proper hand tools. 1000
F Performs Maintenance on Aircraft and Associated Equipment-- (1) Performs operational maintenance on auxillary power supply using equipment manuals, maintenance forms, and proper hand tools. (2) Inspects the aircraft for the functioning of a complete, serviceable and operational avionics systems using equipment manuals and proper hand tools. (3) Peforms periodic checks and services on avionic systems installed in aircraft. 1000
G Maintains Records-- (1) Plans and schedules maintenance checks using proper equipment manuals. (2) Maintains requisition and stock repair parts using equipment manuals and supply bulletins. (3) Maintains aircraft forms and records associated with avionic systems using equipment manuals. 300
H Performs Flight Checks on Airborne Communications and Navigations Equipment-- (1) Performs preflight checks on airborne communications and navigation equipment using equipment manuals, aircraft maintenance forms, and headset. (2) Performs in-flight checks on airborne communications and navigation equipment using headset. (3) Performs post-flight checks on airborne communications and navigation equipment using headset. (4) Performs post-flight checks on airborne communications and navigation equipment using equipment manuals, headset, and aircraft maintenance form. 1300

Special Instructions: Work processes completed in a state or federally recognized apprenticeship program will be accepted upon presentation of proper documentation to the appropriate service school.

Schedule of Related Instruction for the Trade of

Aircraft Electrical Mechanic

DOT Code: 825.381.010

AIMS Symbol: 0003

A total of 576 hours of related instruction is required in order to complete this program. Related instruction credit may be awarded individuals registered in the trade of Aircraft Electrical Mechanic taken from an accredited institution, providing the courses are similar to the courses taken for a Aircraft Electrical Mechanic program in a community college/vocational school.
