A | Rodman/Tapeman-- (1) Use and care of tools such as shovels, picks, axes, mauls, chisels, hammers, etc. (2) Use and care of survey equipment which is pertinent to taping. (3) Safety practice and instruction (first aid and first aid kits, proper use of sharp tools, precautions of street work, precautions for mountain work, precautions around heavy equipment. (4) Use of hand signals. (5) Familiarity with station system. (6) Setting of monuments. (7) Setting of proper bench marks and turning points. (8) Proper marking and placing of guard stakes. | 2000 |
B | Recorder/Instrument-- (1) Keep notes and make sketches. (2) Set up theodolite over a point. (3) Operation and reading of theodolite and electronic surveying instruments. (4) Check theodolite adjustment, and make required field adjustment. (5) Care and handling of survey instruments (removing from and placing in the box, carrying instruments which have been mounted on tripod, setting up instrument safely (not over a point). | 2000 |
C | Computer-- (1) Read thermometer and make temperature corrections. (2) Correcting for slope measurement. (3) Perform survey calculations. (4) Supervise party. | 2000 |
D | Party Chief-- (1) Supervise party. (2) Analyze jobs for most efficient procedure. (3) Read and work from plans, sketches, notes, maps of record, etc. (4) Instruct apprentices in field procedure. (5) Additional training in one or more of the following branches of survey work: Land survey, subdivision, topography, triangulation, construction, hydrographic, railroad, mineral. | 2000 |

Special Instructions: Work processes completed in a state or federally recognized apprenticeship program will be accepted upon presentation of proper documentation to the appropriate service school.
A total of 576 hours of related instruction is required in order to complete this program. Related instruction credit may be awarded individuals registered in the trade of Surveyor (Artillery) taken from an accredited institution, providing the courses are similar to the courses taken for a Surveyor (Artillery) program in a community college/vocational school.
