B | Install Radio Set and Associated Power Equipment-- (1) Develop skills in the installation of direct and alternating current generator sets. (2) Position, mount, and secure radio sets. (3) Connect cables and audio accessories. (4) Site and ground radio sets. (5) Site and erect antennas; whip and doublet. (6) Install radio/wire integration system (switchboard and telephone). (7) Connect radio set control to power generator source. (8) Site generator set, ground and connect power-cable. (9) Connect speech security equipment to radio sets. (10) Connect and align communications teletypewriter security equipment. | 2500 |
C | Perform Periodic Servicing and Functional Checks on Radio and Associated Power Equipment-- (1) Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly preventive maintenance checks on radios. (2) Perform daily weekly, monthly, and quarterly preventive maintenance checks on generators, antennas and switchboards. (3) Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly preventive maintenance checks on radio/wire integration systems. (4)Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly preventive maintenance checks on communications security equipment. (5) Troubleshoot radio and associated power equipment. (6) Observe safety and first aid procedures when installing, maintaining, inspecting, operating, and performing maintenance on equipment. | 2200 |
D | Operate Radio Equipment-- (1) Voice, teletypewriter, and International Morse Code modes. (2) Tuning. (3) Netting. (4) Operating and stopping procedures for radios and generators. (5) Operate switchboards and radio-teletypewriter sets utilizing correct procedures. (6) Operate radio/wire integration systems. (7) Operate in secure voice and teletypewriter modes. Special Instructions: Work processes completed in a state or federally recognized apprenticeship program will be accepted upon presentation of proper documentation to the appropriate service school.
A total of 576 hours of related instruction is required in order to complete this program. Related instruction credit may be awarded individuals registered in the trade of Radio Operator taken from an accredited institution, providing the courses are similar to the courses taken for a Radio Operator program in a community college/vocational school.
