A | Orientation-- (1) Apply proper terminology the installer-repairer will use on the job. (2) Develop skills in the proper use and storing of tools and equipment. B | Develop Skills in Pole Tower and/or Antenna Construction-- (1) Assemble and erect steel towers and antenna, attach various insulators and conductors. (2) Framing, erection, and guying of woodpoles and installation of hardward, insulators and conductors. (3) Install abuttments, anchors, braces, fixtures and guys. (4) Utilize and properly handle heavy equipment used in construction of components. (5) Determine material requirements and salvage reusable material. (6) Determine manpower requirements. | 2000 |
C | Removal and Replacement-- (1) Utilize and properly handle heavy equipment and tools for removal and replacement of poles, antennas, and towers. (2) Remove and replace damaged poles, antennas, towers, guys, and anchors. | 1200 |
D | Construction and Handling of Aerial, House and Underground Cable-- (1) Install buried and underground cable. (2) Prepare line routing surveys and maps. (3) Determine manpower and material needs. (4) Perform temporary construction for emergencies or to avoid interruption of service. (5) Cable placement and hang suspension strands. | 2200 |
E | Troubleshooting-- (1) Perform pre-operational checks and testing of installed cable. (2) Troubleshoot line faults in field cable and make corrections. (3) Install test stations as required. | 1400 |
F | Perform Preventive Maintenance and Safety Procedures-- (1) Preventive maintenance performed on tools and equipment on a daily, weekly, monthly and/or quarterly basis. (2) Exercise power safety procedures during construction and installation. (3) Administer first aid on site as required. | 600 |

Special Instructions: Work processes completed in a state or federally recognized apprenticeship program will be accepted upon presentation of proper documentation to the appropriate service school.
A total of 576 hours of related instruction is required in order to complete this program. Related instruction credit may be awarded individuals registered in the trade of Line Installer-Repairer taken from an accredited institution, providing the courses are similar to the courses taken for a Line Installer-Repairer program in a community college/vocational school.
