A Orientation (1) Assist an experienced operator. (2) Observe diverse operation of a message center. (3) Develop shop cleaning techniques. (4) Apply Safety practices. (5) Develop skills in use and application of systems terminology. 500
B Operation and Utilization-- (1) Operating various teletypewriters to receive and transmit traffic. (2) Operate digital subscriber terminal equipment. (3) Operate telegraph terminal to receive and transmit traffic. (4) Select and assign telecommunication equipment for online operation. (5) Apply telecommunication procedures for opening, operating in and closing circuits within the network. 3500
C Administration and Processing-- (1) Process incoming and outgoing messages utilizing magnetic tape, paper tape and punch cards. (2) Corrects transmission and reception discrepancies. (3) Establish message reference files. (4) Performs message reproduction distribution and routing functions. (5) Maintain and utilize log books and proper forms. (6) Perform related clerical and administrative functions. 1500
D Preventive Maintenance-- Applies proper organizational preventive and functional maintenance on a daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly basis as required. 500

A total of 432 hours of related instruction is required in order to complete this program. Related instruction credit may be awarded individuals registered in the trade of Telegraphic-Teletypewriter Operator taken from an accredited institution, providing the courses are similar to the courses taken for a Telegraphic-Teletypewriter Operator program in a community college/vocational school.
