Element Work Processes Hours
A Pumping-- (1) Operate tank farm manifold. (2) Operate 50, 100, 350, GPM pumps and systems. (3) Operate manual and motor operated valves. (4) Operate multiproduct pipeline pump station. (5) Use pig and operate pig traps (scraper). (6) Perform troubleshooting on pumps. (7) Perform operator maintenance on all pumps and valves. 1200
B Gauging-- (1) Gauge storage tanks. (2) Maintain pump station operations log. (3) Operate multiproduct pipeline system. (4) Gauge rail tank cars, tank trucks, barges and tankers. (5) Correct measured quantities to net quantities of product at 60 degree F. (6) Load and unload rail tank cars, tank trucks, barges and tankers. 1200
C Sampling-- (1) Obtain water cuts and bottom samples of storage tanks, rail tank cars, tank trucks, barges and tankers. (2) Sample tanks for fuel stratification. (3) Perform loading and unloading sample operations. (4) Perform API (specific) gravity test, visual color test and contamination determination for petroleum products. (5) Perform preloading inspection of containers. 1000
D Product Mixing and Blending Operations-- (1) Conduct bulk product blending operations. (2) Conduct/monitor additive injection system operations. 600
E Unit Operations-- (1) Operate pipeline pump station. (2) Load and unload waterborne carriers. (3) Participate in ecology and oil spill programs. (4) Participate in petroleum terminal operations. 1800
F Safety and First Aid-- (1) Practice and monitor safety procedures in handling petroleum products. (2) Operate and maintain portable fire fighting equipment. (3) Participate in first aid classes/procedures for personnel contamination by toxic materials and petroleum products. 200

Special Instructions: Work processes completed in a state or federally recognized apprenticeship program will be accepted upon presentation of proper documentation to the appropriate service school.

A total of 432 hours of related instruction is required in order to complete this program. Related instruction credit may be awarded individuals registered in the trade of Pumper-Gauger (Petro-Chemical) taken from an accredited institution, providing the courses are similar to the courses taken for a Pumper-Gauger (Petro-Chemical) program in a community college/vocational school.
