The College believes that wholesome education
is a combination of academics and non-academic activities. In this respect,
sports and other extra-curricular activities are given prominence. The students
play football, rugby, tennis, cricket and volleyball.
Clubs and other student organizations offer students opportunities to develop leadership skills and to take learning beyond the classroom. The College sponsors work with student captains/chairmen and patron/patroness to plan each club's activities for each year. Several "activity days" are scheduled during the school year for club business meetings, seminors, special events, and guest speakers. Most clubs also have after-school and weekend activities planned throughout the school year that include field trips, fund raising activities, and events of interest to the students. In the past, boxing was a core sport that was almost synonymous with the college. Today, however, the sport has lost prominence but the Boxing Pyramid still stands in perfect condition. There is also a prestigious annual interhouse athletics competition in which the winning house gets a trophy in addition to a bull. Clubs and societies constitute an important element in students' extra-curricular life. The prominent ones include: Youth Alive, Interact, Wildlife Club, Legion of Mary, Young Christian Society, Debating Club, Computer Club, Entertainment Club and many others organised alongside departments and subjects. The Science Club promotes an appreciation for science among students. The membership students visits locations of scientific interest like the Showgroung, industries, invites guest speakers to meetings on organized days, and experiences science with hands-on activities. The Science Club has developed a point system by which students who have actively worked and participated in club activities are recognized at the end of the school year. Science Club involves problem-solving competition, outdoor experiences, touring research labs, and other science enrichment activities. Meetings are conducted monthly. The Computer Club provides opportunities for students to share their computer expertise and to explore many different aspects of technology. Activities include field trips, speakers, workshops, and discussions on current issues related to computers. All students, including those with little to no computer experience, are invited to join this club. |
