1 You can bring up a patron's record by typing in their library card number. TIP: You don't need to type in the 23114 part of the number, nor the zeros that follow 23114.
2 You can bring up a list of patrons' names by typing in a patron's last name, then their first name and selecting the correct record from the list of patrons' names that appears.
3 You can bring up a patron's record by typing in their dot number. TIP: This number appears to the right of the library card number on the patron's screen.
4 .L will show the list of items currently checked out to the patron. TIP: The menu at the bottom of the screen after you have run the .L command contains many useful commands, like Renew, Change Due Date, and Lost
5 The number in the left margin of the screen, above the list of titles being checked out, is the number of items checked out so far.
6 To change the due date on an item type .L, then C, and type in the date. TIP: If the item is overdue and still out, this will cause overdue fines not to be charged.
7 .CB will bring up the patron's purf screen, which is also known as their current blocks.
8 .HL will show a list of the holds a patron has placed.
9 .M will show the patron information screen. TIP: Use this command if you need to change the patron's address or phone number, or replace a patron's library card.
10 Line 17 of the patron information screen will tell you when the patron record was entered. The next line, (which ought to be line 18, but isn't) will tell you when the last time the card was used.
11 Put an asterisk (*) before the phone number in Line 8 (Home Phone) of a patron information screen in order to stop phone notification of holds. A post card will be sent instead. This is a service extended to patrons who request it. Staff has been requested not to use this service on their own accounts.
12 .H is a way of searching for an item that allows you to place a hold on the item once you have found it.
13 If an item that has been checked out to one patron is checked out to another patron without first being checked in, it comes off the first patron's record with no overdue fines being charged.
14 If there is a hold on an item that is checked out on one patron's card, and that item is checked out to another patron without first being checked in, Dynix does not give notification that there is a hold queue for the item.
15 You can add a message to a patron's purf screen by typing A while you have the patron's purf screen up.
16 If a patron does not have a purf screen, you can create one by typing .B and choosing A for adding a message.
17 You can delete a message from a patron's purf screen by choosing the number of the message you wish to delete and then typing D for delete. TIP: Use this to delete Hold Canceled messages after you have informed the patron of a canceled hold.
