Sebastian's Accent
"I learned their [his college roommates] accent for devious purposes because they had this wonderful accent, the girls liked them. So I would comb my hair like them and put on the accent. It worked quite well." Sam Crab

His Beginning
"A friend made a bet with me that I couldn't go to the bus station and get on a bus and head toward the next large city--which was Columbia, South Carolina. From there, you could take a bus to New York. I went to the bus station. My friend waited till the bus came. I figured, I'll go a little way and get off the bus. He followed the bus all the way. He waited at the bus station in Columbia. I got on the bus for New York City, thinking I'll get off someplace like Raleigh. I fell asleep. I woke up in Washington, D.C. and decided to stay on till New York. I arrived--broke, no money, very little clothes. I had to do something; I had to become an actor. Thank God, I did." Tony Awards

Broadway Debut
"His Broadway debut occurred in Jesus Christ Superstar, for which he claims to have auditioned 18 times. "It went through two directors. They originally had a man from Canada and ended up with Tom O'Horgan. They didn't voluntarily let me in 18 times. They threw me out each time. I'd put on costumes and makeup, and go back. I'd start singing; they'd say, 'It's him!' You think I'm kidding? "They'd drag me out. I'd be yelling expletives and saying, 'I'll be back!' One day, I came in with a long wig on, all down over my face. I'm singing 'Gethsemane.' All of a sudden, they say, 'It's him!' They're dragging me off, and I hear this voice in the background: 'Wait. Let him sing.' It was Tom O'Horgan. I said, 'I don't really know "Gethsemane." They always throw me out before I get any further.' He said, 'Sing something you know.' I sang 'Happy Birthday' a cappella--and he gave me a job."" Tony Awards
