SOUTHERN CHARM
The Antebellum South
I love the old antebellum homes in the South, with the magnolia trees and the live oaks hanging with moss. While many of these homes are still in use as private residences most have been converted into museums, commercial ventures, or bed and breakfast inns.
In researching information for this page, I was surprised to find there are so many of these old homes still remaining and for that I am glad. These homes are a reminder of a time when life in the South was at a much slower pace and graciousness, manners and charm were the protocol of the day.
The picture of the house at the top of this page is "The Hanson House" and is a bed and breakfast located on the Bayou Teche in Frankin, LA. To find out more about this lovely old mansion you can visit this link. THE HANSON HOUSE
The picture below is "Oak Alley" located in Vacherie, LA. I've had the pleasure of visiting this house and it's truly remarkable. To visit this grand mansion of yesterday please go here. OAK ALLEY PLANTATION
The next picture is the "Bunker Hill Plantation" and is located in Faison, NC and is where the movie Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood was filmed. This beautiful old plantation can be visited here BUNKER HILL PLANTATION
