"I will honor Christmas in my heart and try to keep it all the year" ---Charles Dickens - A Christmas Carol - 1843
Anyone who knows me, knows that I love Christmas. It's such a wonderful time of year and I love to decorate the house with lots of fresh evergreen and pine cones, live poinsettias, wreaths, holly, red berries and of course my ever present magnolias.
I also love to brew spicy potpourri, light a fire in the fireplace and burn scented candles everywhere in the house. And baking? Not really one of my favorite things...but I do attempt to make my mother's delicious prune cake which you can find on the Christmas recipe page.
I also enjoy making and writing Christmas cards while listening to my favorite Christmas music as that really gets me into the Christmas spirit.
I'm usually down to the wire getting my shopping completed and wrapping gifts. Unfortunately, I'm not one of those organized people who can get her shopping done in August. But, nonetheless, it all gets done. And somehow, it just seems to make Christmas more special to me to be hurrying around on Christmas Eve making all the final preparations. And of course, I always look forward to a "snowy" Christmas. Not one so bad, however, that folks can't get to Grandma's house on Christmas day, but just enough to get me in that dreaming of a white Christmas mood.
But my most favorite thing of all is to attend the midnight Festival Eurcharist on Christmas Eve. It is wonderful to be present and participate in this inspiring service with the candles burning and the choir singing all the traditional Christmas songs. It makes my holiday season complete.
All I Need to Know About Life... I Learned from my Guardian Angel
By Bonnie Altenhein
Every time you hear a bell,
another angel has earned its wings
Angels keep Christmas simple and always travel lightly
Angels hold the miracle of holiday magic on their wings
Give presence (not presents) from your heart
Send a rainbow with every Christmas card
Take time to smell the pine trees
Say thank you for every gift you receive
and mean it from the bottom of your heart
It's better to give than to receive
Good things come in small packages Better things come in no packages
Always have an angel on top of your tree
Christmas is not just for children
Wherever there is holiday love, an angel is nearby
And remember...be a Christmas angel on call for a friend
My wish for you this Holiday Season is that whatever you do or wherever you go it will be filled with joy, love, peace, good health, and within the company of loved ones and friends.
Please accept this as my Christmas gift to you :)
