The door slammed and a minute later the screeching of tires filled the silent room. "I hate you too Nick Carter!" Lis yelled at the top of her lungs, even though she knew he'd never hear her she yelled it just the same. Tears filled her eyes as she headed into their bedroom. They had just had the worst fight in their entire relationship, ending with him leaving her crying on the stairs. Lis threw herself on the bed and sobbed. It was nearly midnight and her sister would be back soon. With a sigh she pulled the blankets over her, hoping her sister would just go straight to bed and not try to talk.
Nick shook his head as he sped down the streets of Tampa heading for the one place that always cleared his mind, his beachhouse. He knew there was a reason he kept it around. He reached over and turned the stereo up, wanting to drown out the fight that kept repeating in his mind. The song ended and his and Lis' song came on, laughable really because it was one of the guys'. Nick smiled slightly to himself, soon as he got to the beach house he'd call her and get her to come over then spend the rest of the night making everything up to her.
Hannah walked up the dark steps and into her room. Nick's Durango wasn't in the garage when she parked her silver beetle in her usual spot but that didn't mean anything. She figured he was out on a late night snack run, which he did at least once a week. She changed into her favorite pajamas and flicked the tv on. Halfway through the 'I Love Lucy' rerun, the phone rang.
"Lis you gonna get it?" Han yelled, it had rang five times by then.
"You get it. If its Nick, I'm not talking to him." Lis yelled back, finally awake.
Han sighed and headed across the hall to get the cordless from Nick's office. "Hello?" she said tiredly.
"I'm looking for a Lis Halliwell?" a voice asked.
"She's sleeping, I think." she answered.
"This is an emergency, can you please get her to the phone."
Han walked quickly out of Nick's office and down to her sister's room. "Emergency?"
"It's pertaining to her boyfriend Nick Carter."
Lis looked at Han as she walked into her and Nick's bedroom. She looked pale and shaken. "What?" Lis asked, wondering what was going on. Han didn't answer, just handed her the phone. "Hello?"
"Miss Lisa Halliwell?"
"Yes?" Lis replied, a feeling of uneasiness coming over her.
"This is Dr. King at Tampa General, Miss Halliwell your boyfriend Nick Carter was in a bad car accident about 40 minutes ago."
"OMG" She said, clutching the phone.
"He's being prepped for emergency surgery, he has a punctured lung and he hit his head pretty badly on the steering wheel. Would it be possible for you to come down?"
"I'll be there right away." Lis clicked the phone off and stared blankly at the picture of them on the dresser.
"Is Nick ok?" Han asked.
Lis looked at her blankly. "Surgery, he was hit head on...oh man Han..."
Han grabbed some clothes out of the closet. "Put these on and I'll drive you there."
~30 minutes later~
Brian walked into the waiting area. He spotted Lis and Han sitting in the corner, staring at the drinks in their hands.
"Hi." he said sitting beside Lis.
She looked up from her coffee. "Hey Rok."
"What happened?" he asked, all he knew was Han had called him from the car telling him to meet them at Tampa General. It was a good thing he and Nick had planned to go out on the boat that weekend or he would have been in Orlando.
"Head on collision...Bri if it wasn't for me he wouldn't be in there right now." Lis explained, a sob catching in her throat.
Brian looked at Han who shrugged. "Did you two have a fight?"
"A big fight." Lis closed her eyes and leaned back in her chair.
Han stood up. "I'll go call the other guys in Orlando."
"Thanks Han." Bri smiled at her.
"No problem." She gave him a weak smile and left to inform the others of what was happening.
"What were you two fighting about?" He asked, putting an arm around her shoulders.
"Stupid things...." she trailed off, the fight replaying itself in her mind. It had started as a small fight over her acceptance into art school in New York and her telling Nick he didn't need to move up there with her then it snowballed into a fight about absolutely everything they'd ever done wrong.
"Look, I'm sure Nick's over the fight. He probably forgot about it the minute he jumped in his Durango."
"Maybe." she said softly, looking at the door waiting for the doctor to appear.
