In search of ratings…the networks and producers can all great fantasy and sci fi Trying to appeal to the ‘mainstream’ demographic they keep letting science fiction die. What will I ever do without my beloved Andromeda on TV? How could they cancel yet another show that is so important to me? As if taking Tyr off after season three wasn’t bad enough, They are canceling the whole show that I’ve grown to love! Oh how I shall miss the fearless Andromeda crew, Even more than I missed Rev, Tyr and the old purple Trance too! I’ll no longer be able to swoon over those Nietzschean men, No more Tyr, no Rhade, they never even brought back Charlemagne again! No more giggling at Harper’s jokes or remembering Dylan is pretty hot too Though with hunky Tyr or Rhade around that is rather easy to do. There’s so little Science fiction worth watching on TV today, Losing even one show to cancellation is a great dismay. Yet we are losing Andromeda and Enterprise BOTH in 2005. Our Friday night viewing pleasure is taking a nose dive. Had the Enterprise really finished its mission already somehow? Will Captain Archer just retire and grow old with Porthos now? And what of Trip and T’Pol, is their story going to end midstream here? Is Dr. Phlox just going back to Denobula after this year? Can you imagine, no more treks at all after on TV anymore? Now THAT is a new television season to simply deplore! Why do they cancel all the good sci fi shows way too soon? And leave on lame sit-coms, reality shows and every stupid cartoon? All in search of ratings! They try to appeal to the mainstream crowd too much So they want crap like ‘friends-in-space’ and ‘sex-in-the-galaxy’ and such. Instead of embracing the small but devoted sci fi geeks demographic, They expect ‘mainstream’ ratings out of our shows by some feat of science or magic. Thankfully the Sci fi channel does at least give a home to many a lost rerun, That otherwise would be just long forgotten, over with and done. At least there on our channel we can still see an occasional science fiction treat, When they show a SeaQuest, Highlander, Star Trek, Hercules, or Angel repeat. And they do keep a few shows going for a few more precious seasons, But even they betray us fans in favor of ratings and their commercial reasons, Like when they brought back Battlestar…but changed Starbuck into a girl, Making many a true Science fiction fan have to suppress the urge to hurl! Thank the Gods of Science Fiction, the Stargate is still active and being explored… Even in a the Pegasus Galaxy with Major Shepherd and Lt. Ford. But it seems in search of ratings and that 18 to 34 year old male viewer The good ole sci fi shows get canned and the new ones get dumber and fewer So what’s a loyal sci fi fan to watch, even on our own channel, our shows don’t get renewed. All in search of bigger and better ratings so they can sell more SUVs, viagra and fast food!
