Southern Swamp

From the South Clock Town, go out the South Gate. The guard there will try to stop you. But then he realizes that you have a sword and shield and will let you through.

In Termina Field, during the day you'll encounter Chuchues; these blobby-looking things with goodies on the inside. Slashing them with your sword is your best way to kill them, and you can get whatever goodies they had in them. But watch out, because they reappear rather quickly. At nights, you'll encounter Blue Bubbles, flying skulls aflame with blue fire. Nice, I know. If you get close, they'll charge you. Let them. Just make sure your shield is up. They'll bounce off your shield and their fire will go out. Now they're vulnerable and will run away. You can chase and kill them with your sword. Be careful, if they're aflame when they touch you unshielded, you'll be "jinxed" and won't be able to use your sword for a period of time. Go forward through the tunnel and toward a large tree. As you get closer, Tatl will lead the way and remember a carving of her, Tael, and Skull Kid. Then she'll tell you how she and Tael met Skull Kid and when they stole Majora's Mask. It's kinda touching and all, but mostly pointless. Keep going past the tree. If you keep going straight, you'll see a sign that says "Shooting Gallery ahead". But the Shoorting Gallery is of no use to you now. Go to your right. You'll end up in Southern Swamp.

To the right a ways is an owl statue. Slash it with your sword to open it. Then go to the water and swim to your left until you see a pot of steaming something. Get out of the water there and go down the path. Watch out for Deku Babas. Once you get in the clearing, you'll see a house in a big tree. Go to the left and to the Woods of Mystery to find Koume. (Yes, Koume as in one half of Kotake and Koume evil witch bosses of the Spirit Temple in Ocarina of Time. But in this game, the witches are good. Well, they wouldn't try to harm you in any case.) When you get in there, talk to the monkey, then follow him. Watch out for ferocious turtles called Snappers! Dag, those freakers are annoying. But you have to keep up with Monkey. And just because I'm SO kind and generous, I'll tell you what turns you have to take right here on this walkthrough! Left, right, right, straight, left, and left. Then you'll see a couple of monkeys gathered around Koume. Talk to her, she'll tell you she was attacked by Skull Kid. (Dag, this dude sure does get around, huh? Five great fairies, the Bomber's Gang, and now Koume!) She asks for something that gives you energy... but you don't have any right now. Leave the forest (by going in any tunnel that isn't back tracking) and go up to the tree house. The house is actually a potion shop. Talk to Kotake. She'll shriek when you tell her about Koume and give you free red potion, in a bottle you can keep! Score! Now go back to Koume, set the potion to a "C" button and give it to her. For someone beat up and SO low on energy, she hops up right quick to get that potion. She gets better then offers you a free boat ride, then takes off.

When you leave the forest, monkeys will gather around you. Talk to them, and they'll ask for your help in saving their brother who has been captured by the Dekus, then they'll take off. It's quite impossible to keep up with them, so don't worry about it. We'll catch up with them later. Go back to where you first entered Southern Swamp and climb up the ladder to the building on stilts. There's another business scrub nesting there. If you want you can go BACK to Clock Town, find the Moon's Tear AGAIN and trade for the Land Title Deed and then you could trade this business scrub for his flower. But I wouldn't now. Because you'll have the go back in time a LOT of times before you'll be able to get to all the business scrubs. Go to Koume's window, opposite the door you come in. Talk to her and she'll give you a Pictograph Box. It's annoying though; you can only do one picture at a time. (Not quite up to par with the digital cameras we have nowadays.) If you take a new picture, you lose the previous one. After you get the Pictograph Box, Koume will take you on a boat cruise. You can try taking pictures if you like, but it's not gonna do you any good. Anyway, Koume will stop the boat at the Deku Palace and ask if you'd like to get off. Do it.

You'll meet up with the monkeys again. Follow them through the entrance to the Deku Palace. There are scrubs blocking the entrance to the palace, and they won't let "strangers" in. But we have a special advantage: a Deku mask. Go ahead and put it on. This part's kinda freaky, it's like the mask is taking over your body or something. Blah, after the first time, you can press "A" to skip the freakiness. Now that you have the mask on, talk to the guards again. They'll let you in this time, but warn you not to go anywhere but the Royal Chamber... riiiiight. Anyway, you DO want to go to the Royal Chamber first. Be bold, go right up and talk to the Deku king. He'll tell you about a foolish monkey who has insulted the royal family. Go to the monkey in the cage to the left. The monkey denies that he kidnapped the Deku princess and that if they're not careful, the princess will fall victim to a monster! Now exit the Royal Chamber. A monkey will fall out of the sky and ask if his brother's okay. He tells you about a secret route into the cage from the Outer Garden entrance and about a bean seller under the palace. Then the monkey will hop away. Go into the door to the left. Be careful, there are Deku guards, and if they see you, they'll kick you out of the palace. But it's easy to avoid them; there are white dots where their lines of vision are, just stay away from those dots. It's easy, it just takes patience. You can collect various rupees along the way if you want. Go through the hole in the wall to the next garden room. At the end of this side, there's a hole you need to fall into. This is where the bean seller lives. Buy as many beans as you want, the first one's free but each additional one is 10 rupees. There's a little bug crawling around that area too. Scoop him up in your bottle. Then go to the right, you'll see some bushes, some "Fresh spring water", and a "soft patch of soil". First, dump the bugs on the soil. Rupees will pop out of the hole. Then take your Deku mask off and plant a magic bean (if you want, you need to have at least one bean for later). Then scoop up some water in your bottle and dump it on the little seedling. A big plant will pop up. OoT players will appreciate this, instead of having to wait seven years to see the fruits of their magic beans. Hop on the plant and it will elevate you to a ledge with a treasure chest. Jump to the ledge and open the treasure chest for a red rupee. (That's worth twenty rupees.) Jump down, scoop up some more water (or another bug, but you'll have to come back for water), buy more magic beans if you need to and beam yourself out of there. I find it easier to get caught by a Deku guard and getting kicked out than trying to sneak out of there. If you want to go to the garden rooms on the other side of the Inner Palace Garden, you can get a piece of heart. Now, from where you land when you get kicked out, jump from lily pad to lily pad to the right. (Make sure you're in Deku mode, otherwise you'll sink the lily pads and fall in poisonous waters.) There's a ledge on the wall to the right, just ignore it right now. At the end of the lily pad trail, there's a patch of soil. Plant your bugs if you want, then take off the Deku mask and plant your magic bean and water it. (Super nifty tip: it always rains on the second day. If you plant it on the second day, you don't need to water yourself, the rain will take care of it.) Hop on the hover plant and it will elevate you to a hole on the wall.

Now this part is tedious. You need to make your way to the other side of the building using Deku flowers (which are sometimes moving). And you've got scrubs shooting at you too. First thing I'd do is take out any scubs I can with bubbles, then travel by Deku flower. This too takes patience and good timing. Also, be aware of your shadow as you're gliding. It's an indicator of where you'll land. Remember "A" to stop gliding. Eventually, you'll end up inside the Royal Chamber, but in the cage! Talk to the captive monkey. He'll just say what he did before. So take off the Deku mask, and he'll ask you to cut the rope. Try slashing the rope with your sword, and he'll see that that won't work. Then he asks if you have a loud instrument. The Ocarina's not loud, so go back into Deku mode and pull out your pipes. The monkey will get excited and tell you about how he and the princess went to the temple to see what the poisonous water was about, but that monsters captured the princess and, someone has to save her! Of course, you, Hero of Time, help everyone and everything. So of course you'll go in Monkey's place to save the princess! Monkey in return will teach you the Sonata of Awakening. This will gain you access to the Woodfall Temple, among a few other things... But the song caught the attention of the other Dekus and now they're gonna punish the monkey. As you're being dragged off, Monkey leaves you the tip of using the shortcut that Deku people use to Woodfall Temple. Remember that ledge by the wall to the right of the lily pads? You'll want to be using that now. That's the shortcut the monkey spoke of. So use Deku flowers to make your way to Woodfall Temple. Watch out for Dragonflies flying around. If one chases you, hide in a Deku flower until he hovers over you then pop out. This will kill him. Along the way, you'll encounter a big owl. It's Kaepora Gaepora from OoT! He says that this area is very dangerous, it has lost its guardian deity, and he would not blame you if you turned back. Then he'll tell you about the owl statues and leave you with a song written on stone. Read it and learn the Song of Soaring. Now, whenever you play that song, you can warp to any owl statue that you have found and opened (by slashing it with your sword). It'll come in handy in the future.

Continue on your way and soon thereafter, you'll come to Woodfall. Hop to the lily pad to your right and onto the platform with bridges. Ugh, watch out for the hiploops. They are so annoying! Just shoot them a couple of times with bubbles, or if you're daring, charge them with your sword in human mode. Watch out, they will butt you off the platforms and into the poisonous waters. Eventually, you'll come to a raised platform and Tatl will point out the Deku Scrub mark. There's also an owl statue here; open it with your sword. At this point, I'd start time over, you're gonna need some time to get through this temple and it would suck big time if you got halfway through and your three days were up. Cause you know what happens at the end of those three days? The moon crashes into the land and everyone DIES!!! So, let's go ahead and start time over. Warp to Clock Town, using the Song of Soaring, deposit rupees or whatever, then play the Song of Time.
