Woodfall Temple

Slow time down, then warp back to Woodfall, stand on the Deku Scrub mark, put your Deku mask on, and play the Sonata of Awakening. The temple will then rise from below the waters. In the middle pot on the platform, there’s a fairy. You might want to scoop it up in your bottle for later. Anyway, dive into the Deku flower and glide to Woodfall Temple...

In this first room, there’s a stray fairy! Take the Deku mask off, then put the Great Fairy’s Mask on, and the stray fairy(1) will fly to you. You may notice that the mask still sparkles. Take off the mask and go into Deku mode. Dive in the flower and glide to the platform to your right. There’s a treasure chest containing another stray fairy(2). No more sparkles from the Great Fairy’s Mask. But it will sparkle in other rooms. It’s probably a good idea to check for stray fairies in every room you go into. (Of course, I will also note them as I find them in this walkthrough.) Glide to the Deku flower to your right, then to the platform with the door. Be careful, there are Skulltulas trying to block you. If they hit you while you’re gliding, you fall below with a whole bunch of Black Boes. Don’t panic if this happens. In Deku mode, just do a bunch of spin attacks while making your way to the entrance. To the right of the entrance platform is a ladder. The best way to avoid the Skulltulas is by going right between them. Now go through the door.

Tatl will mention that it stinks like the poison swamp. Um... okay. Ew. To your left there is a ramp going down to a platform. Kill the Deku Baba down there to get a stray fairy (3). There’s also a locked door to which we do not have the key. Go into Deku mode and hop on the plants in the water to the platforms at the other side of the room. In the corner to your right is a platform with jars. Hop over there, one of the jars contains a stray fairy (4). Hop back and go through the door. In this room, jump to a plant, then to the Deku flower in the center. Glide over to the chest to the left; inside is a key. Look on the wall to your left, there’s a beehive-lookin thing. Shoot it with a bubble and it will fall. There was a stray fairy inside (5). Use your Great Fairy’s Mask to get it to come to you. Now, back in Deku mode, hop back to the flower and glide to the door to the left.

(You don’t have to do this room, but it’ll get you the Dungeon Map.) In this room are three Snappers, the annoying turtle dudes. Hurry over to a Deku flower and hide in it. The trick to getting the Snappers is when they spin over the flower, pop out. When all three are dead, the door will unbar and a chest will appear. Open the chest to get the map. Leave the room.

Hop across the swamp, and go through the door back to the main room. Then hop to the opposire side of the room and unlock the door. In this room, change to Link mode. Push the block forward, then follow the bridge to the right. Be careful not to fall in the water, it poisonous and will continue to harm you until you get out. But if you do fall in, there are stairs on the side of the entrance platform. When you get to the corner with the torch, watch out, there’s a Skulltula. Kill him and you get a stray fairy(6). Now follow the bridge some more and push the block out of the way. Then go back to the torch and pull out a Deku stick. (You can get them when you kill the withered Deku Babas. Tip: if you put the Deku stick away before it burns out, you can keep using it and you won’t run out of Deku sticks as quickly.) Light the Deku stick and run down the bridge, take a right at the block and light the torch by the door. When the torch is lit, the door will unbar. Watch out though, there are these fireflies that will follow your lit stick. If they get too close, they'll hurt you. But they only stay by the fire.

(You don’t have to do this next part, but you get the Compass). Now go in the door. There are two Dragonflies in this room. Get them the same way you do Snappers. (You might have to get close to them to get them to follow you to the Deku flower.) When they’re both dead, another chest will appear. In this one is the Compass. Exit the room.

Pull out another Deku stick, light it, run it up the stairs to the left, and light the torch. Then take out a stick, light it, jump to the floating platform, then to the platform to the left and burn away the spider web. Get into Deku mode and go up the winding stairs. I don't like this room because it’s so dark and hard to see stuff. In this room there are a bunch of Black Boes. That’s why I said to get into Deku mode so you could just spin attack your way through there. You’ll know you’ve gotten them all when a chest appears. Go open the chest and get a stray fairy(7). Then get out a Deku stick, and from the torch in the middle, light three other torches around the room; this unbars the door.

In the next room, there are moving Deku flowers and Dragonflies. Not a cool mixture. But you know what to do, get to the other side of the room. If you fall, that might actually help, because sometimes you’ll be able to lead the Dragonflies back to your stationary flower and kill them there. Once you get to the other side, go down the stairs, and you’re back in the room with the big water plant. Go by the switch to the left and Tatl will comment that you can see the room better from there. Take off the Deku mask and step on the switch, and ladders will appear. Now go in the door by the switch. Follow the wall to the right and go in the next door.

In this room is a Dinofol. Kind of intimidating. To defeat him, keep him Z-targeted. When he jumps over you, shield yourself, because when he lands, he’ll take a swing at you. Right after he swings, YOU swing, and you’ll usually get him. But watch out, because after you hit him, he’ll blow fire at you. Just back up to avoid it. After a few times of this, he’ll fall over dead, the door will unbar and a treasure chest will appear. In it is the Hero’s Bow! Now you can shoot things in Link mode. Exit the room.

Look across the way, and you’ll see a golden eye. Shoot it with an arrow, this will make the Deku flower in middle raise and lower. Jump on the platform and jump to the door by the golden eye. Ugh, the bugger in this room is so annoying! It’s a Gekko. Sounds like a cute little lizard thing, but it’s not. It’s more like a spastic frog. Slash it once and it’ll get upset and call out a Snapper to help it. It’ll ride the Snapper around, trying to run you over. Just treat it like a regular Snapper and when you pop out of the flower, the Gekko will fall off and run away. Quickly take your Deku mask off, Z-target the Gekko, and shoot it with an arrow. Then quickly put your Deku mask back on and hide in a flower because the Gekko will run back to the Snapper and this will all start over. After three rounds of this, the Snapper will shrink away, the Gekko will turn into a harmless little froggie, and the door to a blocked area will unbar. Don’t bother with the froggie right now, but if you want to do the game completely, you’ll have to come back and get him. ANYWAY, go in the door, get your goodies from the jars, and open the colorful chest to get the boss key!

Now, leave this room, and glide to the door to the right. Hop across the room and go through the door. You're back in the room with the block you had to move. Push the block out of the way and go to the door on the left. Look back under the bridge. There’s a bubble with a stray fairy(8) in it. Shoot the bubble with an arrow. Then look up, there are two more of those beehives. Shoot the one closest to you (the other one has an angry bee in it), and another stray fairy(9) will come out. Put on your Great Fairy’s Mask and have the fairies come to you. Exit the way you came in.

Hop across the floaty plants and climb back up the ladder. Go to the edge by the switch and you’ll see a lit torch. What you need to do is shoot an arrow through the fire of that torch and hit the unlit torch on the flower in the middle. You can actually Z-target the torch in the flower to make sure you do it right. The torch on the flower will light, and the flower will rise up and start spinning and the poison in the water will clear. Now go to the right, turn the corner to the left, and pass the barred door, and use your sword to pop the bubble and get the stray fairy(10). Then use the Deku flower to glide to the big spinning flower. Look left of the Deku flower you just used. There’s a ledge with an unlit torch and a switch. You need to shoot an arrow through the torch on the flower to the torch on the ledge. Sounds complicated, but I guess it just needs strategy and practice. Have it so that the flower torch is between you and the torch on the ledge. Have your arrow ready, but don’t shoot it yet. Wait until the lit torch comes between you and the unlit torch again, THEN shoot it. I know that sounds complicated, so if you find a way that’s easier, by all means, go for it. Anyway, lighting that torch unbars the door. But before you go in the door, use the Deku flower to glide to the ledge with the newly-lit torch and step on the switch. (You need to be in Link mode to be heavy enough to depress it.) This reveals a chest with a stray fairy(11) in it. Once you have that all taken care of that, go through the newly unbarred door.

Go down the ladder and use the Deku flower to get to the ledge to your left (facing the ladder). Slash open the bubble and get the stray fairy(12). Then glide up two ledges and pop open another stray fairy(13). Then start workin your way up the ledges on the other side. There’s another stray fairy(14) bubble on the third ledge. Then look out and you’ll see two columns of fire. There’s another stray fairy(15) bubble in one of the fires. Shoot it with an arrow, then get it with your Great Fairy’s Mask. And while you have your bow and arrows out, you might want to go ahead and get rid of the two Dragonflies and three Skulltulas. And look across to the canopy on the other side of the room, there’s a crystal under it. Shoot it with your arrow to make the fires go out. Then glide to the flower under the canopy closest to you. Make sure not to land on top of the canopy, hang in the air for a while if you have to. Then from that flower, glide to the flower on the column, and then to the flower on top of the other canopy. From there, glide to the door, and make your way inside the boss’ lair...

Stick around the edges if you need to gather supplies, but if you go too far, the boss will introduce itself. It’s Odolwa, Masked Jungle Warrior, and it’s pretty big and jumpy and generally freaky. All Tatl can tell you is, “If you get close to him, you’ll be beaten! Do you understand me?” Uh, thanks, lots of help there. But there are bomb flowers around the edges, so let’s put those to use. Chuck them at him. The thing is, he moves around a lot. So he’ll usually be no where around the bomb flower when it explodes. To tell you the truth, I’m not entirely sure of a good technique to get rid of this spaz. If you do know one, please email me about it. I generally just spaz at him. You can hide in the Deku flower, then burst out and drop Deku seeds on him. Deku seeds paralyze him for a bit. Then slash away in Link mode. After awhile, he’ll send buggies for you and fireflies (but instead of hanging around fire, they hang around you), oh, and make boulders fall from the sky. And the boulders will knock you out of the Deku flower, so you can't really hide from that. Eventually this bozo will fall over dead and you’ll be done with him. Hallelujah! Don’t forget your heart and go into the light... the blue light. A mask will be waiting for you there. It’s Odolwa’s Remains! Ew...

You’ll be transported to... I dunno, another dimension. A big leggy alien thing will be there and teach you a song. It’s the Oath to Order. Then the leggy thing grunts a lot and Tatl can somehow translate it as, “Call us.” Right. Then you’ll be transported to the temple where the water is now nice and clean. Tatl ponders about the spirits and what Tael said. Then she gets to be an old softy and apologizes about Epona. Then she thinks we’re done here, but you notice a chamber. Slash an opening with your sword and you’ll see that the Deku princess is inside! You explain to her that Monkey Boy is in trouble, and she asks you to carry her back to the palace. So, OF COURSE, you squish her into a bottle. But she says she’s fine. So let’s head back to the Deku Palace. You don’t have to go the way you came; when you exit Woodfall, just jump into the water and the entrance to the Deku Palace is right in front of you. Go on through to the Royal Chamber and dump the princess out in front of her dad. She’ll jump on her dad a bit, then order the little Scrubs to free to the monkey. Everyone says thank-yous and the princess tells you about a present she has for you. If you have time left over in your three day period, refer to the Southern Swamp Goodies section to redeem your fairy pieces and get a gift from the Deku Royalty.
