Fulghum steps down as head coach after 18 years

Position offered to assistant coach Rusty Dail

Larry Fulghum, who has directed Wilson Post 13 baseball fortunes since 1985, announced this winter that he is stepping down from his post as head baseball coach. Fulghum, who played on the first modern-day Wilson Legion team in 1968, will devote all his baseball energies to Coach Todd Wilkinson's staff at Barton College. Assistant coach Rusty Dail has been offered the position for the 2003 season.

Fulghum led Post 13 to the Area One Finals in 1990 and coached former East Carolina standout Steve Salargo and minor league all star Keith Hines during his tenure. With its youngest team in recent memory, Post 13 struggled to its worst-ever record in 2002, managing just five wins and missing the playoffs for the first time. Each of those players, including MVP Allen Letchworth, is eligible to return in 2003 under new Legion age-limit rules.
