The Greene County Fireman's Association holds an annual softball tournament in September or October. Every member of each department that has 36 hours of training is eligible to play. Members of the Greene County Sheriff's Department and NC Highway Patrol are also eligible to play. Shine Fire Department has won the championship for the last 10 years. In 2000 Castoria Fire Department got third place.

In the past, Castoria has had its own team in 2000. In 2001, Castoria joined forces with Jason FD for the Castoria-Jason team. In 2003 members played with Walstonburg, and in 2004 some members played with Bull Run and some members played with Walstonburg. This year, for only the second time, Castoria will have its own team.  Any current Greene County Fire, EMS, or Law Enforcement personnel interested in playing should contact Asst. Chief Anthony Grant.
