Chapter Two -- The Ride
"Hey Nick, can you come over for a sec, I've got a question over here!"
"Hold on a sec, Mandy, can't you see I'm talking to Lori, gosh..."
"Well, I think it's okay, Detective Carter, why don't you go help Mandy first?"
"Oh... sorry bout that, I'll be back!" As Nick walks towards Mandy, he suddenly turns around and said, "Hey, Lori, by the way, you don't need to call me Detective Carter, just call me Nick, okay?"
"Oh... okay, Nick!"
At the same time, Detective O'Keefe walks out from his office, "Hey everybody, we've got a new case to investigate! Since last month, there have been a lot of illegal drugs trading all over LA. We suspect there's a big group of major criminal behind that. So... I think you guys know what to do... oh... Nick and Lori, come in my office, I gotta talk to you guys."
In O'Keefe's office, Nick and Lori are just standing there, having no idea what's going on. "Nick, as you know, you're considered to me the most talented cop over here, so I will like you to kinda watch over Lori for these couple of days when you guys are out investigating. And Lori, since you're new to this, if you have any questions, just ask Nick, okay?"
"Sure, no prob!" Nick responsed with his famous cute Nick Carter smile that every girls in LAPD are dying to see.
Lori was starring at Nick, somehow attracted to his smile, so she just stood there, not giving any response.
"Lori, u okay?"
"Oh... I'm fine." Lori face turns red and she keeps her head down for the rest of the conversation.
For a few days, the whole team went out and investigate the case, so far, the progress is pretty good. At the end of the seventh day, they've got enough evidence and are all ready to take action against the major criminals.
"Everybody, good job! especially Lori, I can't believe that you could pick up the work so fast, Nick, I think you're not only a good cop, you're also a good teacher! Well done!"
"Thanks Sir. No matter how good I am, it still depends on whether Lori wanna learn or not."
"Anyways, you guys must be tired, okay... go out and have dinner, Nathan, Ethen, Kevin and Joe will come back later and the rest of you, go home, have a nice sleep and come back to switch with Kevin and the other guys, understand?"
"Yes Sir!"
The team walk to the parking garage together, planning where to go for dinner.
"Hey guys, let's go eat chinese food! Hey Lori, since you're Chinese, you must know where we can find the best Chinese food." Mandy asked.
"Sorry guys, but I'm really tired and having a really bad headache, I don't think I'll go with you guys. Sorry."
"Hey come on now, just having fun! Trying to be cool again?"
Without responding Mandy, Lori got just in her car, trying to start it. But the PASSAT doesn't seems to be on task today, in this sucky mood. "Damn... why aren't you working now!!!" She is really tired and her headache is getting worse. She just wanna go home and rest, but now the car is not working... when she needs it the most. As she is sitting in the car, trying to figure out a solution, she sees someone walking towards her car, it's Nick.
"Lori, everything okay?"
"My car is not working! I think I gotta call a cap in order to get home!"
"No no. It's gonna take forever for a cap to come, how bout this: I'll give you a ride home."
"Oh, no, it's okay. You're gonna go eat dinner with them, rite?"
Then, Nick get close to Lori and whisper to her ear: "I don't really wanna go with Mandy, if I go, I don't think I've a way to get home tonight!" And both of them start laughing.
Mandy is so pissed off at what she's looking at. "Nick, come on now, it's time to go!"
"Oh Mandy, I'm not going, I'm tired too. Lori's car broke down, I think I'll give her a ride home."
"Okay! FINE!!!"
"Poor Mandy... Nick is not going, I guess you're not going either, right?" Nathan is teasing Mandy.
"Who said I'm not going. Let's go people!" And everybody left, except Nick and Lori.
