Talk to Me
| Updates When Kristyne woke in the morning she realized two very strong arms were wrapped around her. When she tried to move they only pulled her in closer to a very large and warm chest, and she felt the soft tickle of warm breath on the back of her neck. “Nick?” she whispered. No response. “Nick?” she tried again. This time she felt the end of his nose and the softness of his lips brush against the back of her neck. She didn’t know whether to move or stay put. It had been a very long time since someone had held her like this. But, this was not the time, place, nor situation for such things. She’d try a different tactic; she managed to wiggle and turn herself around in his arms facing him. “Nick” she whispered once again. This time his hand came up her back and his fingers found their way into her hair pulling her even closer. ‘OK, so this wasn’t the best idea.’ Shaking, she realized that his lips were not even an inch from hers. ‘Please let him wake up.’ Still, she couldn’t help but study his face while he slept. In her mind she acknowledge how truly beautiful his features were and wished once again that things could have been different for them. ‘Why did I even come here in the first place? If I couldn’t, or rather wouldn’t let him help me before, why would he even want to help me now?’ In the middle of her thoughts she realized that two very deep blue eyes were studying her. When she looked at him he smiled, and she shivered in his arms. “You cold?” He asked. “Ummm, no. Not really. Sorry to wake you but, ummm, I need to get up. Ahhh, I really need to use the bathroom and you wouldn’t let go of me.” Now she really felt embarrassed. He immediately relaxed his arms around her and gave her a sheepish grin. “Sorry, didn’t realize I was doing that. How are you this morning?” “Tired.” She laughed softly. Now she did feel chilled without the immediate warmth of his arms. But she stood up anyway. “Umm, if you’ll excuse me for a second? Do you mind?” “No, that’s fine. Actually, wouldn’t you like to take a shower? I’m sure I have some of AC’s clothes around here that he outgrew that might sort of fit you.” He smiled though, cause he wasn’t really sure. He had a hard time remembering when Aaron was as small as Kristyne was. “A shower would be nice, but I have a change of clothes in the car. I always keep some there. You never know what is going to happen on a call and I might need to change when we get back to the squad house.” “You remember where the shower was from the party?” He asked and she nodded her head yes. “Well, help yourself. If you need anything just let me know. Ok?” Kris again nodded and went to take her shower. Shortly after Aaron came downstairs and saw his brother sitting on the couch alone. “Nick? She leave? Is everything ok?” Aaron wasn’t quite sure what to make of the look on his brother’s face. “Naw. She’s taking a shower. Actually she, we just woke up. I sort of fell asleep here with her last night after she had that nightmare. Don’t know really how she’s doing, except she is at least able to talk this morning. I guess we’ll find out more when she comes downstairs.” But Nick really wasn’t thinking about that. He was still trying to figure out his feelings about waking up with her in his arms. Something he hadn’t done with someone is a long time. “What’s up with you? You worried about her? Is there something more between the two of you than you’ve told me?” Aaron questioned. “Yeah, I’m worried about her. Evie is her best friend and practically like family. There’s really not much more between us than what I told you last night. But, there could have been if I hadn’t been such an ass. That’s why I can’t figure out why she came to me. I guess I just figured I’d be the last person in the world she’d want to turn to.” “Does she have family or something down here?” “No. I don’t know the full story. That is part of the whole problem to begin with. Something happened last year sometime, well, I guess over a year ago now. I don’t know the full story. See, I kept pushing trying to find out and I just pushed a little too hard, ya know. And I pushed her right away from me. It wasn’t until Evie very angrily explained a few things to me that I realized how majorly I had screwed up. But, even though we’ve run into each other several times over the past few months we can never seem to get past that argument. That’s why I can’t understand why she’s here. If she wouldn’t let me help before, why now?” “Because I have no one else to turn to.” Kris answered from the bottom of the stairs. Neither Nick nor Aaron had heard her come down. “If it bothers you though, I can leave. I’m better now. It’s just, last night, I didn’t even know where I was driving until I was here. I didn’t know where else to go. I couldn’t go home, not without Evie. **sigh** But, I’m better now, sort of. Coherent at least.” Kris hadn’t moved from the bottom of the stairs, fully expecting Nick to say that maybe it was best if she left. “You don’t have to leave. You don’t need to be alone. I’ve learned my lesson. I promise I won’t press you to talk about anything you don’t want to. Just stay and relax until you find out how she is doing.” Nick really did want her to stay, help take her mind off of things. Maybe this was the chance they had been needing to finally overcome the gap he created so long ago.
