Talk to Me
| Chapter 7 “Thank you. I know I have a hard time saying that sometimes. But, I mean it. Maybe you’ll let me fix you two breakfast?” She questioned cautiously. Aaron answered first. “That would be GREAT! Nick can’t even fix toast without burning it.” “Hey!! I’m not THAT bad!” Nick challenged. “Oh yes you are Nick. Do you even have anything in here for her to fix?” “Kris, really, you don’t have to cook for us, we can go out. I’m sure you don’t feel up to it.” Nick wasn’t quite sure how he felt about having a woman in his kitchen cooking. No one except his mom had ever done that. “Actually, I love to cook. And it’ll give me something to do to take my mind off of things.” She smiled as she walked into the very large kitchen to assess the situation. Nick and Aaron sat at the island counter talking with Kris as she fixed breakfast. She was surprised he actually did have things to cook, especially if his cooking skills were all that Aaron professed them to be. The boys did offer to help her clean up afterwards, which was just fine by Kristyne. However, if the water fight she had with Nick after the 4th of July party was bad, she was not prepared for the all out water war she got caught in the middle of with Nick and Aaron. It all started with a simple flick of Aaron’s wet fingers in Nick’s directions. Next thing Kris new they were throwing cup fulls of water at each other, with Kris right in between them. Her only defense… the water spray nossel. She turned it on full blast first drenching Aaron. But, Nick took advantage of her back being towards him and filled a cup of water from the refrigerator water spout and dumped it down Kris’s back. “Oh, that’s it Mr. Cater! You are so dead!” She laughed, turned the faucet to cold and turned it on to Nick. Who of course ran the other way. When Kris went after Nick, Aaron went after Kristyne. Before she knew it she was trapped in the foyer between the two, both with ice cold glasses of water to dump right on top of her head. Trying to push past Nick in an attempt to avoid the cold water the two got tangled up and slipped to the floor. “Now you really are dead Nick. Let’s just see how ticklish you are. Aaron, is he ticklish?” Of course, Kris was already tickling Nick under his arms and then his sides, which really made him squirm and giggle. “Oh, yes. Very ticklish.” Aaron laughed at the two grown adults horsing around wishing he had a video camera. God, the kitchen was soaked and so were the three of them. But he was not about to get in the middle of a tickle fight. If anything he was even more ticklish than Nick. “Oh, so you wanna play that way, huh?” Nick grabbed Kristyne’s hands and rolled over on top of her. Pinning her hands above her head with one hand he began to tickle her ribs with his other. “Nooo! Nick, stop. Oh, God. Please stop.” Kris managed to get out between laughter. She was laughing so hard she could barely talk. With the floor, Nick, and Kris being wet, all her squirming from being tickled caused the two of them to slip across the floor. Next thing either of them realized was that rather than just kneeling over her, Nick had actually slipped and was laying completely on top of her. Kris swallowed hard and just blinked at Nick. Neither knew exactly what to do, except just be still and look at each other. “Ummm, Nick. You might wanna let go of her hands. Don’t want to hurt her, do ya?” Aaron had picked up on the awkward situation and didn’t know what to do to help. Nick cleared his throat. “Yeah. Sorry. Hope I didn’t hurt you?” He asked releasing her hands but still not moving away from her. “They’re fine.” Was all Kris could say. Just then the phone rang. ‘Saved by the bell’ Nick thought to himself as he was finally able to will himself to get up. He extended a hand and helped Kris up while Aaron answered the phone. “Maybe now we’ll have to go find out if some of Aaron’s clothes will fit you while those dry. Sorry, didn’t mean to get so out of hand.” Even though he could hear Aaron telling him the call was for him Nick could neither let go of Kris’s hand nor look away from her. The two just stood there staring at each other unsure as to what they should do or say next. “Nick!! Brian’s on the phone! Didn’t you hear me?” Aaron yelled. “Tell him I’m on my way.” Nick answered to Aaron. “I’ll be just a minute then we can get you some dry clothes.” Finally letting go of her hand he went to get the phone.
