Talk to Me
| Breathe “You know, Nick, this is really nice here.” Kristyne had finally managed to talk to him as the day wore on. Right then Evie and Kristyne had been sitting around the fire listening to the friendly banter between the guys when Nick sat down next to her. “I’m glad you came today. I was worried you’d find out where you were going and wouldn’t come after all.” “Well, I almost didn’t. I was really upset at Evie for tricking me.” “What changed your mind?” Nick asked hugging his knees his cheek resting on them as he studied Kristyne. “I don’t know. I felt bad about how I reacted last night. I really wanted to see you to tell you thank you for helping like you did.” “Oh, I didn’t do much. No need to thank me.” “Well, I wanted to. And well, Evie pointed out to me that having a day of fun wasn’t such a bad thing after all.” When Kristyne smiled this time it was genuine and Nick felt a warmth spread over him. ‘She really is beautiful’ he thought to himself. “Since you had such a good time here today, do you think I could convince you spend some more time with me? Maybe dinner one night?” God, was he pushing his luck? She wanted to see him again, she really did. “I don’t know, Nick. Maybe it’s not such a good idea.” “Why not? I think it is a great idea. Look, I don’t really know, but I suspect there is a lot going on in your life right now. I don’t want to make things more complicated for you. It’s just. Well, it’s just that I like you, or rather; I like what I’ve seen of you so far. Just a casual dinner. No strings, no commitment. Just see where this takes us, if it takes us anywhere?” Kristyne felt Evie elbow her in her side. When she looked over Evie had this wide-eyed expression on her face and Kristyne could just hear her thoughts. They would be something along the lines of ‘What the hell are you doing? Tell him yes already.’ Looking back at Nick he had the sweetest look in his eyes. It reminded her of something she saw in them that first night on the beach. ‘Oh, why not!’ she thought. “I guess dinner wouldn’t hurt.” She expected, well, she didn’t know what she expected, but it sure wasn’t what he did at that moment. Nick leaned over slightly, just enough to look her directly in the eyes and whispered, “Thank you.” At that point things were starting to wind down. Everyone was tired from the night before. Kristyne and Nick tired from the stressful accident and the rest tired from partying. The guys helped Nick put sand on the fire and everyone went up to the house to say their good-byes. “Nick, do you mind if we change again before we leave? This sand is driving me crazy!” Evie asked as Brian, Leighanne, Kevin, Kristin, and Howie made their way out the door. “Sure, Evie, you don’t have to ask. You know where it’s at.” At this point Nick was clearly stifling a yawn. Kristyne yawning in response, “Don’t do that, Nick. Don’t you know yawns are contagious?” They both laughed a little. “Hey Bone, where do you think you are going?” Nick caught his friend heading up the stairs. “Man, I am beat! I was just gonna get a shower and hit the bed.” “Oh, so that’s how it is huh?” Nick teased. “Leaving me up to do all the cleaning, huh?” “Don’t you have the cleaning lady coming tomorrow or something?” “Yes, Bone, I just wanna get some of this food put away. Don’t worry about it, I got it covered.” “Thanks man. I don’t see how you’re staying on your feet. I just don’t.” He mumbled as he disappeared up the stairs. “I’ll help.” Kristyne offered. After all, she had helped make the mess. “No, that’s ok. You girls are tired enough as it is. I can get it. You know I gotta give him a hard time about it though.” “No, really, I don’t mind. Besides, with two of us it won’t take long and I hate to leave a kitchen dirty.” “What are you doing?” Evie yawned as she exited the bathroom. “Helping Nick with his kitchen. Why don’t you go rest on the couch? It won’t take long.” “OK.” Evie was too tired to argue. She lay down on the couch and was immediately asleep. Laughing, “Looks like I’ll be the one driving home. I swear that girl can sleep anywhere. Come on, let’s tackle this kitchen so we all can get some sleep.”
