Talk to Me
| Breathe **BANG*BANG*BANG*BANG*BANG** “Aje! Yo man, you up. Come on, I really need to talk.” AJ stumbled down the stairs and slung the door wide open. “What the hell is going on? What’s the matter? Someone die or something? Man, why are you banging on my door at midnight?” “Aren’t you even going to invite me in?” Nick asked running his hand up the back of his neck and over the top of his head. The move wasn’t lost on AJ. “Yeah. Yeah. Come on in. Nick, what’s the matter? What’s got you so upset?” Nick went in and sat on the couch, head in his hands, looking down at his shoes. “Did you ever do something. You know so stupid, like loose your temper because you thought the situation was one way, but then you find out you were so wrong?” “We’ve all lost out temper at times Nick. Sometimes it’s not at the most appropriate times. What’s up?” **Sigh** “You remember I had that date with Kristyne right?” Nick looked up and AJ nodded. Nick went on to tell AJ about the night on the beach when he first met her, how she got upset with his questions at the hospital, how she was hesitant to go out on a date, and how she got completely upset with his questions earlier that night. “Then I yelled at her and told her she obviously had a problem with trust and then drove her home in silence.” Nick again had his head in his hands staring at his shoes like they held the magic to make everything right. “Oh man! Nick, man, tell me you didn’t?” “It gets worse, AJ; much worse.” “Worse than what you already told me? Jesus Nick!” AJ didn’t even know how else to react. “When I got home I had pretty much decided that Kristyne and her problems, what ever they were, were not worth my time and effort. I'd just let it go, you know. But when I walked in the house the phone was ringing.” Nick told AJ exactly what Evelynn had yelled at him over the phone. “So now, I feel like this total asshole and I don’t even know where to begin to set things right. And the kicker is, even though I said it, I don’t want to just give up on her. She has something special.” “Nick, I don’t know what to tell you. Something like this, maybe the best thing is to just let it alone. Ah, let me finish. Just for a little while. Give you both time to cool down and think. You have to decided if you really are ready to deal what she has going on in her head and heart. Not that it is a bad thing, but it will definitely be something that will need a lot of strength and understanding from you. Even then, she may have shut herself off from you completely after tonight. I don’t know what else to tell you but to give her time. And IF you decide she is what you want, and IF she decides to give you another chance, you better sure as hell make sure you don’t make the same stupid mistake twice.” **groan** “I know, I know. Damn it! What I wouldn’t give to do tonight over again. Sorry, I woke you. Hey! What are YOU doing in bed this early? I thought you were going out?” “Yeah, well, I decided I needed to stay in. I think I’m getting a cold or something. No biggie. You gonna be ok driving back to Tampa or do ya wanna crash here?” “Thanks man, but I think the drive will help clear my head some more. I’ll talk with ya later.”
