Honeybear Update

July 27, 1999
Honeybear's eye infection has been treated and has healed nicely due to Susan's diligence with daily cleaning and the use of a fly mask 24 hours a day. The bear now goes into his round pen for concentrated training with little encouragement. He is haltered easily and leads quite well. He allows touching but is still a little leery of zone 4. A couple of days ago Terry, Susan's husband, was able to pet and rub him all over. A farm visitor was allowed limited touching priveleges as well, although he was not encouraged by Honeybear. Yesterday he started to learn trailer loading. The stock trailer is a big step up since he is so small (maybe 10 hands) but he did put one leg up. This was considered a success and the lesson ended there with praise and scritchies. Although Honeybear was terrified of humans, he is quite brave with things like fences, plastic bags, dogs and other scarey thing found at a farm or on a trail.

More pictures will be posted as they are received. Honeybear's story goes on....................
