How iconic the metaphor, how convoluted the message. What was the good plan that I was waiting for? I have written volumes of the drama we wait for while overlooking the obvious and here I was doing the same thing. It was as if the verse that proclaims that He opened their understanding of the scriptures had meant nothing to me and then that all of a sudden, WHAMMO. It is revealed to my understanding.
Isaiah 61:1 reads, “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, Because the LORD has anointed me To bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to captives And freedom to prisoners;” . Whew!
In the events of your day do you bring good news to the afflicted, bind up the brokenhearted, proclaim liberty to captives and freedom to prisoners? I think we do this as a matter of normal routine, we just do not recognize it as described above. The verse says this is so. You have been anointed to do these things, and when you do, the spirit of the Lord is upon you.
The purpose of bible study is that you can have all the intangibles untangled when you take the time to recognize their specific properties. When studying this family of verses Isaiah 25 indicates that when these things happen; the bringing of the news, binding up, proclaiming liberty and freedom, it becomes THE DAY, the verse states (Isaiah 25) 9, And it will be said in that day, Behold, this is our God for whom we have waited that He might save us. This is the LORD for whom we have waited; Let us rejoice and be glad in His salvation.”
This then is an essence of Jeremiah 29:11, THIS IS the plan that God has for you, a plan for good and not for evil, this is what we all are waiting for, not only for the cataclysmic, apocalyptic end as described for the end times but for everyday you shine the light that is instilled in you . The breadth of these verses is without end. Did you help someone today, remove an obstacle from someone’s path, or give thanks to someone for their help? Can you even imagine a day when you don’t do these things? When these things happen, it is the day of the Lord we have waited for and as the verse concludes time for us to be happy and rejoice in His salvation.
